Out-of-state student getting in-state tuition?

Hi, I am wondering if any out-of-staters have had success with securing in-state tuition? Could you share what steps you took and what the process was like?
If it helps, I am going to be a grad student in the spring. I applied to my alma mater and would really love to attend there. I attended all 4 years there and only received $6,000 worth of loans. Since I am going to be an independent grad student, FAFSA determined I could secure way more but I'd like to reduce the cost even more, if possible.

My senior year of high school I took classes at a community college and then transferred those classes to another 4-year college. Since I was a transfer student I was able to apply for reciprocity since the two colleges had an agreement. I got the reciprocity and was able to get instate tuition as a transfer student.0

At my school, if you apply for and receive a graduate assistantship, you get a stipend, a tuition scholarship, and out-of-state fees are waived.0
