Forum etiquette question

How are the forum reaction buttons - Like/Insightful/Awesome used or tracked, if at all? It doesn't occur to me very frequently to use them, because there are no notifications or summaries of any kind. I want to "reward" or validate people for posting awesome stuff, but those buttons are underwhelming, to say the least.
I just want to make sure I'm participating in the most productive way.

Honestly I don't know. I'll hit the appropriate button if I read something I like and don't have time to reply. Or if my reply wouldn't add to the conversation. Unless the person checks back they won't know anyone reacted as far as I can tell....5

I don't know either, really. Can we even see who likes a post? I can't ever, it just tells me I can't like my own post. Which is ridiculous as well, because I'm hilarious.18

No idea, but I ensure I rate all posts I like, because I want the writer to know that I appreciated the humour, information, insight or it was just an amazing post.9

I don't think they are used necessarily by MFP but don't know for sure. I use them anytime something hits me in a post to use them.2

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. MFP's forum tech seems decades out of date.
I'll try to start remembering to hit those buttons. Awesomes for everyone!3 -
Haha, I just noticed those buttons!1

You get points for them, they don't mean a whole lot but they do track in your notifications section just like flags and reported posts do1

Wow, I had to go looking for that in the Android app. Thanks for pointing it out! It's too bad they aren't easier to see on the website.2

Guess I'll check it out tooo...Android user here...0

Still couldn't find that screen....0

I use my iPhone looked everywhere and couldn't find it. Although my profile said last log in was three days ago... What? I'm pretty sure I've logged in every day.0

So, what do we do with points?0

Look at them. Get all tingly over how big our number is. Then blink and realize that they are meaningless numbers generated by clicks from anonymous webzfolkz.
The only thing I get out of it is that I know someone at least is reading some things I take the effort to post.

In the web version, if you get to the page showing these numbers, you can click on each and see the most recent posts that were marked as "Insightful" or "Like" or "Awesome."2
