Do I need a reset

Hi everyone.
Came across this em2wl way about a year ago but only really following it a month or so.
My story is I had ds2 2.5 years ago and did slimming world and breastfeeding as my exercise :-). I lost ~50 lbs and was delighted but I think I was skinny fat as I was still flabby and had lost my strong legs. But was delighted to lose as thought since I had hypothyroidism from ds1 i would never lose weight. But of course everyone thought I looked great. After a year I noticed the weight starting to creep on. Think this was because the bfeeding was lessening so I assumed I would have to eat less to make up for the less energy my body was using. I was using MFP and that was telling me to eat about 1200. So I have been on between that and 1500 for last year and voila... 28 lbs back on. Gutted.com
I have joined a gym in Jan that does les mills classes. So I do bodypump twice a week and bodyattack once a week. I work full-time desk job and have 2 smallies so can't really go anymore but I get the walk in at lunchtime as well.
I got my bmr tested by breathing into an apparatus with nose blocked.to my surprise I found image a high metabolism. Bmr was ~1900, lifestyle ~500 and daily exercise ~200. So the total was about ~2700. So I have been starving myself for the last year or so.
I got a fit bit charge hr and the daily calorie burn for the last month has been between 2500 and 3000. My plan was to bring my calories up to 2500 and reset. I filled out the scooby calculator and it also said my tdee was about 2500 - 2600.
My question is do I need to do the reset for the 8-12 weeks. Would my metabolism be registering so high if it was starved? I am up to 2500 as of today and have put on about 4lbs after 4 weeks which is bearable. I am 38, 5'8 and was 194 when I started.
I can feel my legs and arms getting stronger since Jan but the body fat is not coming off so said screw it I will try this. I love not weighing daily as well, it is so liberating.sooooo really want this to work as i am enjoying eating but eating a lot is hard.

Hello @elouquinn ! Good to see you here. Well, before reading about your metabolism test, I could already tell that your TDEE would be higher because you are not sedentary at all. How much are you eating? Getting your calories up is a great idea and I would tell you not to stop at 2500, because your actual TDEE is higher. Take your time in your reset, don't start cutting too soon.
Make sure you check our metabolism reset guide http://eatmore2weighless.com/the-metabolism-reset-guide/

welcome to the group! Even though your metabolism is high, you would still benefit from a reset, as you have never eaten at that level. Its possible your TDEE is much higher than that but was supressed to "only" 2500. Based on how active you are, its very likely.
I would spend some time getting up to 2500, if you are struggling... then once there I would probably push higher. Take it slow and @TerezaToledo gave you our helpful links to get you started. Feel free to ask any questions!

Hi @elouquinn
Great question and I am just going to reinforce what the ladies are saying!
Most important thing right now is to get the calories up to 2500 as a start, then when you have been there for a while you can maybe push a little higher, but you got to get up to 2500 first!
If you can get in the strength training while you increase as well that would be extra great!

The first effects of undereating too much is a hit to the TDEE anyway, the body will adapt several things before lowering the metabolism (BMR/RMR), and that suppressed your TDEE total from other things.
Oh - and that test is an RMR test actually, BMR being a much more involved test with overnight stay in controlled environment.
Still nice and telling, just means you probably slowed down other aspects of your TDEE way below what they could have been, but not so bad your RMR was effected.
Then again - without a bodyfat accurate test - you have no idea if that RMR is appropriate for amount of LBM you carry. If you have higher LBM, then actually that RMR could be lower than expected and needed.0 -
The RMR or BMR test is still just another estimate for your numbers. Nothing is ever going to give you 100% accuracy so no matter what test you do or have done, it will always have an margin of error.
Use all numbers with a grain of salt.1 -
Oh of course - it's meaningless to estimate TDEE from BMR that way, unless you use the tested RMR rather than the calculated BMR - in the TDEE tables.
I've seen variations of 200-300 calories from tested to calculated based on gender/age/height/weight - where it has no idea of bodyfat %.
Sadly it's usually been lower than expected. That's a significant difference and meaningful to starting out on the right foot.0
