Stomach problems

Yep. I inquire because I've recently had (more than one occasion) a bit of a "spasm/flutter" under my right rib cage that is accompanied by some minor pain. On one occasion (just after I ate 6 pieces of not-so-crispy-cooked bacon, I experienced something more than the minor but definitely not severe. I say not severe because 42 years ago I experienced what my doc called a "gallbladder attack"- doubled over in pain, hurt to breath, etc. That was pretty severe. LOL. He just gave me some pill to knock me out for awhile and I've been OK except for recently. I'm pretty convinced it's gallbladder and too much fat at 1 time.0

@Aquawave I know of someone who was hospitalized for 2 weeks with pancreatitis. Almost died. There is no one who will ever convince her it is her EXTREMELY low fat diet that it problematic. She had gallstones accompanying the pancreatitis even though her gallbladder was removed several years ago. Probably 20 years ago. She has plenty of digestive issues and doesn't understand why...cuz after all, she's extreme low fat and has been for years.2

I am going through a similar experience which started at the beginning of the month after coming home from a vacation. I had been eating LCHF for a few weeks before and stuck with it for the most part while away. However, I ate a lot of cheese every day, then came home and had a Chinese buffet, then the next day went bowling. Following this, I was in such agony I could barely walk. I saw a gastroenterologist the following week who recommended a low FODMAP (low gas) diet, a probiotic, and a prescription drug for constipation. My pain has subsided somewhat but it still very evident. I had a CT scan last week and no obstruction or anything was found. I am seeing a GYN later this week. It may be hormone related. This happened to me in the past when I was eating Atkins. I lost a lot of weight and my hormones went haywire.
I eat poultry mostly, some beef, fish, bacon, and pork with just salt as seasoning. I boil the protein and drink the broth. I render chicken skin with salt once a week for a delicious snack. I have some pork fat that I will use to try to make chicharones soon.
I second the recommendation for an elimination diet in case you have food sensitivities. I also recommend something to keep things moving. I am not sure if that is the intent of your prescription. Magnesium citrate works best for me.
I wish you the best!
@toadqueen - it was with similar issues that I described my recent issues (GB was out in December 2000), that I just "hit a wall" with my fats, that I was miserable no matter what I ate, etc. That's when through process of elimination I discovered my low stomach acid... Since treating it and adding digestive enzymes and tweaking a few other things, I'm better than I was BEFORE any of the drama, and in fact, pretty much better than I remember, period, even pre-pregnancy!0 -
The old saying for gallbladder problems is: Female, Fat and Forty. I think we should add to that low Fat diet. This discussion admittedly is a small sample population, but it seems to be a recurrent theme here. Men get it too, my grandfather had his out in the 40's, then died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 83. We can't blame low fat diet for him. So does anyone know if there is a correlation between Gallbladder/Liver bile disorders have increased since the food pyramid and statins?2

You guys are awesome - will definitely be rethinking a few things and see what I can sorted - think I will try an elimination diet too and see if it's food intolerances as well, lots to get my head around - my doctor did say it wasn't gallstones as the pain would be on the right hand side but after seeing what you have gone through it might be possible - will definitely discuss this with him when I get an appointment2

@Aquawave - I know my endocrinologist said that since the low fat craze struck gold, there's been an uptick. I don't know many folks who take statins, though for comparable data.0 -

well I know my sister had hers removed and she starved herself on a ff diet for many many years when younger, she's also vegetarian though so mostly ate carbs and no fat.1 -

Ask for an ultrasound. I suffered for years with it because there was "no way a skinny teenager was going to have gallstones" right? Lol
I had over 100 stones they said! My parents and even the doctors thought I was faking so I wouldn't have to go to school. They ran every other test imaginable and finally scheduled the ultrasound to "rule it out". Bingo! Gallstones! I seriously had symptoms for about 5 years, increasing over time.
I grew up on pizza and Mexican food. My parents owned a pizza delivery restaurant that was next door to a Mexican place. My friends parents owned the Mexican place and both places would feed us all we wanted all day long. Mostly nachos for me. Definitely high fat, but probably not healthy fat overall since it was the late 80's/early 90's.
Though, by the time the symptoms got really bad, we had moved and I was older and more aware of "eating healthy". So, I definitely ate things like salad or bagel w/cream cheese for lunch on a regular basis at the peak of symptoms1 -
These last few posts make me sad. My Mom had her gall bladder removed when she was maybe 30 or so. She died at age 74 from pancreatic cancer (metastasized from colo/rectal). She took pride in her mostly vegetable diet but when I think "Mom" I think of Honey Buns and Nutty Buddies.1

Five F's for gallbladder: female, fat, fair fertile, forty.
When my gallbladder crapped out when I was 25, I was 280lbs, pregnant with my 4th child in 5 yrs and brown haired, blue eyed and freckled. Hit four of the five, lol.
On ultrasound, I had so many stones as to make them practically uncountable and I suffered through the last 7 weeks (first attack at 30weeks pregnant, included delivery at 37 weeks) of my 4th pregnancy with crippling pain and afairly notable weight loss (because I was almost afraid to eat anything at all, given the crippling pain that would come) of 12lbs in those 7 weeks.
I am one of those lucky people who have never really missed their gallbladder and had zero problem transitioning to LCHF years after it was removed.1 -
You know, I forgot until just now, but I do remember my doctor telling me that most women didn't lose their gallbladders until after their second child, but that it was really common then. I wonder if stress, adrenal fatigue, hormone havoc, and nutrient storage deficiency all contribute somehow!?!0

@KnitOrMiss - thanks for the reminder about testing my stomach acid. I remember reading message you posted about it a while ago and bought the pills but never did the test. I will read up on it again and try it out. I will also investigate gallstones although my pain is mostly on my lower right. I remember doing a gallstone flush a few years back and will check that too.
I have the 5 F's but mine is 50 instead of 40...still possibly fertile1
