Just starting low carb - need calorie total.

Hi all,

I ate low carb about 12 years ago and really enjoyed it. I did lose weight and several inches. I'm making plans now to begin LC again but was wondering about my calorie needs. MFP has me set at about 2100 a day, but should I stick with that? I seem to recall when I did LC several years ago I didn't worry about calories, I just ate until I felt satisfied.

Thank you for any help you can give me!

Try a TDEE calculator. That will help you get a rough ball park figure of what calorie level will work for you.

Some people find they do better when they still count calories and others find they can get by without counting when they go LCHF. Do whatever works for you.

    Elevator shoes?

Actually, @nvmomketo 's sharp advice is worth pinning your hopes on.

Since you're preparing to begin LC and not jumping in with whatever LC is in the fridge/cupboard/dustbin (good for you, BTW!), I might also recommend taking a few hours to root around the LCD Launch Pad, which is chock full of very helpful resources.

    Good luck!

I found MFP numbers to be on target for weight loss and maintenance. I compared it to several of the on-line TDEE calculators which generally indicated the same +/- ~100. Averaged out, is was very similar to MFP.

I would eat to satisfaction while you get used to it. You can always start counting calories in a couple weeks if you're not sure you're getting enough appetite control.
Don't forget to read about the sodium needs in the launchpad. And also about using healthy fats and staying away from vegetable, soybean and and seed oils.
