trying to kill me with kindness

One of the great perks about being a fireman in a smaller town is that a lot of people like to bring us treats (especially weekends and holidays) to show their gratitude and support. The problem is that these are NEVER something that fits into the diet.

I just stare at them and drool while my buddies like to tell me how good they taste and keep offering them to me. LOL, friends can be hell some times!

Temptation is always around, but resisting gets easier the longer I stay away from the junk. My keto waffles are holding my hunger well at bay today!

haha, I usually tell the next incoming shift "you guys need to eat ALL this stuff. I don't want to see it here tomorrow morning."

Yes, the dreaded sugary, floury snacks. You set a great example!

I feel your pain. Working from home has been a huge help in that department. Families, coworkers, administration are always plying healthcare workers with carbs and I don't miss it.

Yep. I do the same with my slim and trim husband. We'll be at a get together and someone asks him if he wants to take something (sweet) home. He nearly always says "yes" then it sits in the fridge or on the counter tempting me usually until it spoils. He doesn't really even like sweets but seemingly can't say "no".
  • I keep a supply of the quest cookies n cream, mint Choco chunk, or Oreo cookie bars, to help curb the temptation when things like that come into the office. Net carbs for a quest bar range between 6-10. Depending on the variety you get. Stay strong..lol

We had a breakfast and lunch joint around years ago call the Fireman's Feast, or thereabouts, which was run by a couple retired firefighters who'd perfected their cooking skills on the job. It would be fair to say there was no overabundance of LC food selections apart from steak & eggs.

One day, I heard a svelte, retired FF order his usual - "Peanut butter and onion sandwich, hold the bread." Folks smirked. Sure enough, he got 4 slices of raw onion covered in peanut butter. Said carbs had slowed him down when he was working, and he'd given them up and felt a lot better. Only downside he mentioned was that butter doesn't stick to raw onions....

Heck, I'm guilty of it too! Several years ago I was in the hospital for a week following surgery. When I got discharged, I went out and bought a HUGE tray of cookies and took it up to the floor for the nurses who took care of me.

Ahhhh! And again! A wonderful family who live across the road just brought us a plate of homemade chocolate chic cookies (yes, more cookies!). The other guys sure do like them, LOL.

ETA - now the other guys are eating sandwiches made from donuts and cookies. I think I would get sick eating that much sugar. The thought is kind of gross actually.

Back before this way of eating, I used to be guilty of taking people I appreciated sweets to eat. I know better now, but at least know that what you do is appreciated. :)

Subs! Good idea! Been thinking on what to get the nurses, who have done wonderfully with my mother, as a thank you!

As a nurse, too, I have to ignore donut day, and the turn your Monday into a sundae days all the time! At least the ribs were an option!
