Hi folks,
Been using urine ketosticks, but after reviewing many LCHF posts, blogs and yt vidoes indicating measuring blood Ketones is more reliable/accurate, I decided to lay out the cash and ordered a Precision Extra glucose/ketone kit. Arrived today, and I did my 1st test.
Blood Ketones = 4.7 mmol/L.
Compared it to the Phinney/Volek chart, (below) and was not sure how to interpret.
I wanted to ask the group if this is good, or should I be concerned that it's in the 'starvation ketosis' range. I cant figure out if that is a reason for concern or not. As of my last checkup, I do not have diabetes. I only ordered Ketone test strips with the meter. Didn't occur to me to order Glucose strips too, so I have no idea what my glucose level is.
Appreciate your thoughts and advice. Hoping there is no reason for concern and I am just being a pita. thanks!
Here's my info:.
I have been following keto woe for 63 days, keeping Carbs <=5. Most days, I am at zero carbs, eating meat and fats, only. For the last 3 weeks of so, I have been doing IF (16:8 or 23:1) most days. I have a pink salt + h2o drink (1tspn) 1 to 2 times per day to keep my electrolytes up. Keto starting weight was 310#, current weight 281#, so I have a whole lot of body fat to burn for fuel. I feel great! Lots of energy, improved mental clarity and joint pain virtually gone. The scale has barley budged in the past 3 weeks, which is not a big deal to me any more (finally!!! over it), but I am losing inches every week (Yay- keto is definitely working for me!)
Oh yes, I should also point out, I did the Ketone Blood test @ 6pm, which was about 4 hours after my daily meal.

It sounds great to me. You're still fairly new and you may see the number drop a bit over time. But your results will be up and down all day based on what you're doing and when you are and stuff like that.
You're not in acidosis territory. You would know if you were because you'd be a T1D and you'd be doubled over in pain and you would hardly be able to walk and talk. An acidotic diabetics appearance is that if a very very drunk person.

thanks for the good news/sanity check, @Sunny_Bunny_ Definitely not experiencing any of those symptoms.
The chart label 'starvation ketosis' made me nervous .......sounds like the grim reaper is on your doorstep0 -
