VSG & Intense Workouts

Hello! I had VSG surgery at the end of May and this week I will be starting a 6 week hour long boot camp class, going 3 times a week. Does anyone have any tips for helping with possible fatigue/low blood sugar feeling while working out?

I've got a message into my nutritionist for advise and have met with the trainer but he wasn't familiar with VSG surgery and just recommended eating/consuming protein an hour before workouts and after workouts. I've been doing cardio but this is my first go at an intense workout since surgery, I really want to make the best of these classes & build my muscle back up.

Just curious if anyone else out there has any tips for keeping endurance up?

I spin 3x/week and train with a personal trainer 2x/week. Best suggestion I could give you is to take smaller, frequent sips of water vs huge gulps which may not sit well with you. If you feel over-exerted or lightheaded, stop for a minute and rehydrate - good luck!

Keep up with electrolyte loss. I typically down a tsp of salt in the mornings to help balance the lightheadedness

Is the cardio you are currently doing pretty intense or more moderate? You definitely want to challenge yourself and push yourself, but sometimes it helps to increase the intensity of your workouts gradually, especially since you are basically just a few months out from surgery. I think hydration is definitely important, as is making sure you are keeping up with your protein and vitamin requirements. What anbrdr said about electrolytes is important too. I wish I could down salt like that but since surgery, big doses of salt or salty food make me super nauseous :-(

Try a protein/fruit shake during the workout? So you have the immediate sugar reserve for energy if needed? You can have it on hand, but use water until you feel you need something more. Then finish whatever is left after the workout?
