Are you also fasting (now and then)?

I am not doing the fasting. I am trying to keep carbs under 20 and calories under 2000. Part of my previous high carb diet recommended by people that "knew" about such things involved grazing and frequent snacks. Part of my adjustment has been getting to the 3 squares and not much between them.

I typically eat supper at 6 PM(ish), and typically eat nothing before breakfast at 7 AM(ish). That is not a long stretch really, but it is a good 12+ hours. I am not sure that counts for much.

No chocolate sundae (or anything else) before bed, eh? I think that counts for a lot.

I really appreciate all the information that you all are sharing.

I'm really new to this and appreciate learning more about it. New enough in fact that I haven't tried it yet.. I'm been lurking trying to figure it all out. I'm a T2 and feel a method with far less carbs would be much more helpful for health reasons.

I too have had ADA recommendations given which seemed quite absurd, I just couldn't abide by what they advised (300 grams of carbs daily).

I'll just be over here in the corner reading some of the articles for a bit. ;)

    The ADA recs are absurd!

Be sure to check out the LCD Launch Pad if you, er, run out of material in your corner..... ;)

I did try vinegar and some cheese before bed for a couple of weeks because I had read that would help the fasting numbers in the morning. It did not help me. It has been a while since I have had anything at all between supper and breakfast.

For the life of me, I don't really understand how eating anything before bed will lower your BG, except perhaps for MCT oil.

It certainly hasn't worked that way for me (though I'm hesitant to read much into my sloppy n=1 bedtime snack studies; for all I know, the differences were due to nightly variations in dragons vs. damsels in my dreams, which I never remember anyway).

If you are new and exploring, you have got to check out this site. New research currently in progress. Only 10 week results are published so far. Full 2 year results are scheduled to be released in 2018.

Try copying the entire link and pasting it into your browser (rather than clicking to view within MFP).
