Going for nice 45 miler with friends tomorrow. Been enjoying my hill loop with its 1000' of climbing lately. A nice 75' ride to keep me outta trouble. Looking forward to ride with friends tomorrow.

Tomorrow I'm planning to get in around 20-25 miles with a friend that I haven't ridden with in many years. Sunday, Mr. Bike will be my mode of transportation to/from my 1/2 marathon. I get to avoid having to deal with the shuttle bus and can park my bike right by the start ;-)0

Nice. I like the idea of riding to the 1/2 marathon and back. Assuming it isn't too far it would give me a chance to warm up my legs and "cool them down" afterwards.
Of course I am that "crazy guy" who rode to start of double century ride one time so DW could sleep in etc.0 -
Returned to the trail of my last crash last night. Extremely humid and I was having a really tough day both physically and emotionally. Walked many of the features, but I think it was just good for me to get out for a bit.
Planning to ride 20-30 on the rail trail tomorrow morning with a couple peeps. Was going to ride the CX bike, but actually considering dragging out the old Quintana Roo...0 -
Hugs all around "Lily". Hope your ride with walks helped heal ya up including your spirit.1

@podkey - yep, warming up the legs and cooling them down afterward is bonus! Depending on the route I take, I can make it a 5-10 mile ride each way. Most likely the ride there will be the shorter ride because a key road isn't very busy early in the day. Afterward it is too busy (very narrow shoulder and cars who regularly speed) so I'll take the longer but safer route back.
LOL about your bonus miles before your double century!
@lilybbbbb - I guess the only good thing about my bike crash in 2005 (concussion, bruised ribs, cracked helmet) was that I had 6 hours of memory loss so have no recall of the actual incident. However since it happened in February when there likely were still icy patches on the trail (I'm in the Chicago area), I won't ride in slippery conditions any more. Big hugs to you as you recover physically and emotionally.

Hi All!
Just did a couple 25 milers Friday and Saturday. Our group did a 70 miler Saturday morning over one of my favorite routes, but we were out late Friday night (went to the Hollywood Bowl - one of the few things beside the weather that SoCal has going for it) and didn't want to get up at 4:30! Yesterday DW rode with the group but frankly I wasn't feeling it. I can't keep up with those guys anymore, especially on the kind of route they did yesterday which has a 15 mile uphill stretch. Also I had a lot of stuff to do around the house. So I hung out with the boys who helped out with some projects.
Kudos to all of you on your nice rides and runs this weekend! Way to get "back in the saddle" Lily!0 -
It rained Sat morning so I waited till the afternoon. Weather was still iffy but off I went on my trusty hybrid instead of the roadie. (hybrid has fenders
) got 10 miles in.
Sunday was a ride wide DW/DS and church friends. DS had a spill and hurt his arm so while he and DW started walking towards home I sped home to bring the truck to at least load his bike and him. Put his arm on ice and in a sling as there was no apparent break. This morning still hurt so DW took to Dr. Turn out he broke his radius near the elbow and now he is in a cast for 3 weeks (must not have been too severe or it would have been longer). All in all I got another 10 miles in. DW said the Dr complimented the sling I created out of a dish towel. (Boy Scout First Aid0 -
Dang Kevin, that's too bad about your son! Nice job on the first response though!0

@klmackey893 - sorry to hear about your son's spill. Hope he heals up quickly and completely.
I discovered the summer equivalent of black ice on Saturday's ride. Part of the bike path I took had been recently sealcoated. There had been light rain on and off all morning. The fresh sealcoat plus light rain got me on a right turn on a very small downhill. Damn rear wheel slid out with no notice. Slammed my right side into the pavement. I hit hard enough to feel nauseous for several minutes. Never saw this coming and never had this experience in all the decades that I've been riding. The wipeout was about 12 miles into a 26 mile ride. I did finish the ride but was very cautious on this section of the path. The more weathered asphalt wasn't slick at all.
Nothing broken but my right wrist and shoulder hurt a lot on Saturday night. But more problematic is my right hip flexor. I have an abrasion/bruise on the hip but that doesn't bother me. The hip flexor has me limping especially after sitting for extended periods of time.
I'm now 48+ hours post crash and my wrist is just a tad sore, the shoulder has full mobility but still bothers me when putting on shirts. I'm most concerned about the hip flexor as I have a trail marathon on Saturday. Running isn't an option at the moment, although walking is fine once I warm up a bit - I walked my 1/2 marathon yesterday and kept a consistent, pain-free pace. But it was pretty flat and free of trip hazards.

@gadgetgirlIL, so sorry about your spill, then not being able to run your 1/2. Those slippery little downhill turns make me leery. I'm a pretty gungho downhill speed guy, but those little things, especially if it's concrete and not pavement.
We seem to be in an epidemic here (well sorta). I had no issues over the weekend but DW did get stung by a bee (again!) while riding. Got her on the finger. Fortunately she removed her ring on that finger because overnight it totally swelled up to the point where they would have had to cut the ring off. Same thing kinda happened to me about three years ago...was riding along the bike path in Redondo Beach. Part if it was slippery and I went down on my hand. Finger was sprained. Later it took an hour of hard effort on the part of the urgent care people to get my wedding ring off, the swelling was so bad.
The things we do for that two-wheel freedom!0
