I got to thinking one day that I would like to shout to the rooftops some of my favorite kitchen utensils and why they are my favorites. These tools help me to do my job in the kitchen better by either allowing me to do a job that might be kind of painful to me or that might be too messy to handle otherwise. So, here is my list of favorites, not in any special order, just as I think about them, and why I like them so much. I will try to provide a link to my favorites so you can see them.

#1-Plastic food prep gloves I buy at Sam's Club-I like these because I don't have to continually wash my hands while prepping food and to keep things off my hands like Salmonella when handling poultry. I can do all I need to do with one set of gloves, and pull them off inside out, then toss them in the trash and wash my hands once.

#2-My potato masher-I think I have mentioned before in the PBS thread. This thing is much better than my yellow Tupperware masher from 30 years ago. This new one mashes potatoes and beans much faster and with much better consistency while doing it. It also takes less push pressure to get the job done. The masher has a slight curve in it and rocking it back and forth instead of pushing straight down makes it easier. I have a lot less pain in my entire hand to my shoulder, so it's a win win in my book.

#3-My Kuhn Ricon can opener-This has to be the best can opener I have ever owned because it is easy to place on the can and then I turn the can opener handle instead of the small turner on top. I hold that so I can use my hand strength to make the actual turns and it's so much easier than trying to turn the top spinner. There is a great can tab opener on it as well as bottle openers and jar openers. The only problem I have with it is the jars and bottle caps don't necessarily fit the jars and bottles I need to open so hubby still has that job, lol.

#4-My Norpro Grip EZ Fiskie-It's a fork and whisk combined. I love this thing for whipping up eggs and flipping foods while they cook.

#5-EIOUTM 2in1 Silicone whisk that twists down flat-I can't help but love this whisk because it can be used in the open position or in the closed position. For example, when making a soup and having already browned onions with the left over frond in the pan. You can use this whisk closed in the flat position and add the broth while using the flat whisk to pull up all the goodness in the bottom of the pan. It also makes great scrambled eggs while using it in the flat position.

#6-Garlic Mincer-I can't give you a picture of it but it is two round bowls with cutters and post holes in one side. It also has posts on the other side to fit into the post holes on the cutter side. You put your peeled garlic in there and spin it back and forth to mince the garlic. I love this thing, it's easier and 100 times faster than doing it on a chopping block and it keeps the garlic smell out of the chopping block. It's easy to clean by rinsing it with soapy water.

#7-1.3 Gallon Compost Bin with removable inner liner-I don't think the inner liner holds 1.3 gallons but it does hold all the wet stuff without getting the nats flying around the kitchen. I haven't had to put out vinegar in weeks because I put all the wet scraps in here before I take it outside. Sometimes I do it every two days, sometimes I do it once a day, it just depends on what it is I am doing. If I am making leek and potato soup then there are lots of scraps to go out right away and the bucket is filled. Otherwise I can leave it in the kitchen and I don't even know it is there.

#8-Mason Jars-These are probably my truly favorite kitchen item because the versatility in them is limitless. I use them for everything in my kitchen, storing dry goods and keeping foods in the refrigerator and freezer and the once in a while canning I do. Now they make plastic lids and I can buy separate silicone liners to make them air tight. Doing it this way means I don't have any rusted metal lids and rings when using them for storage. I still have to use the metal lids and rings for actual canning because the plastic lids aren't designed for it.

#9-Silicone hot pads I got BOGO in red. I love these things, I think they are much better than cloth and they wash so easy. I use 4 when I need to bring out a very large baking sheet from the oven. It keeps everything protected on the counter.

So, that's my list of favorites, what are yours?
