Backsliding

Not sure what happened...over the last week or so I have had a carb relapse it seems. Pizza, chocolate bars, bread... I'm trying to get back under control, but what I would really like to figure out is what caused it in the first place. I was going along so well! I didn't feel tempted, felt strong...and all of a sudden I'm just eating all the things!
Anyway. Back to logging to hold myself accountable. Back on plan effective today. I'm up six pounds...and while I know it's likely mostly water weight it is still discouraging.
Boo.

You've got this. We have been or will be there with you!!1

It'll come off in no time. I'm up 3 from some celebrations last week as well. I'll be right there with you1

Le sigh. Yeah. Me too. Trying to get back into it. We did it before, we can do it again.0

I'm currently going through the same issue. Not really having cravings and do really good during the week but when the weekend comes all hell breaks loose. I feel its mostly pressure from social situations but I don't want to become a hermit on the weekends just because I cant control myself around people who don't follow this WOE. This is something I'm trying to work on but it feels like a never ending cycle I can't break for some reason.0

I believe it has something to do with the season changes, we see it a lot in spring time too.3

That's very interesting and makes a ton of sense to me. This is the time of year I want to bake and have candy around...yesterday I took a low carb brownie mix, added water until it was fudge like (cause I ain't makin' no real fudge) and may have eaten just like that and ate way too much of it.....but it satisfied my desire to bake something.4 -
I agree with @auntstephie321! The cooler weather has me thinking about the holidays and for some reason oatmeal lol Trying to look for a lc friendly oatmeal like thing to satisfy this desire1
-
@rowdyslady yep same here, we'll probably go apple picking soon and then i'll be dying to make pie and apple crisp. it can be done lc and gf but takes a little more work. though almond flour gives a great nuttiness that compliments the apples well.
@genmom00 last October is when I went full on binge and it lasted till January 1, as soon as Halloween candy shows up I lose all control. maybe this year i'll fair better. I'm going to track calories and be a little looser on carbs than I was in the summer and see how that goes. I've been maintaining for that last little bit on just focusing on calories and keeping carbs kinda moderate except on some heavier days, so fingers crossed. someone once posted info about toasted coconut chips that they ate like oatmeal I believe, looked really good1 -
That's a pretty interesting theory regarding seasons @auntstephie321 . I had a "spread" out on Sunday for football and found myself repeating my mantra "Step Away from the Food. Step Away from the Food". Football Season. A 5 month holiday @ my house. UGH!1

It doesn't frickin help that they released everything Pumpkin Spice on Sept 1st.4

2.5 Tablespoons each of chia seeds, flax meal (or hemp), and fine coconut, some sweetener, some cinnamon (you can also add cocoa powder for chocolate, or some SF jelly powder for a fruity flavour), mix. Pour 1/2 cup hot water over it. Let it sit for 5min. Add some milk, cream or butter. Enjoy.4 -

hey at least wings are the perfect low carb food also chicken wing dip with celery for dipping. sadly beer doesn't work too well, there's only so much watery low carb beer I can stand, brining in any craft brews is disastrous for me, though I know once the weather turns i'll be craving it1 -

My #1 weakness1 -

My #1 weakness
Pumpkin anything is also my weakness. I used to look forward to the fall season just to get my fill of pie and pumpkin muffins. I also made pumpkin cookies every fall. Do I sound obsessed? So far I have the temptation under control.0 -
I admit I have been thinking about baking a pumpkin loaf...and I know if I bake it, I can't help but taste it. Don't...bake...the loaf!!!
That's a really interesting theory on the season change influencing the way we're eating - I hadn't thought of that but it makes sense. Suddenly I'm tired of all of the things I loved to eat keto, and can't stop myself from grabbing one of the kids' Coffin Crisp bars...1 -
@Zenwenner I wondered where you were!!!! Facedown in pizza!!!!
Welcome back!!!! I've missed you.3 -
I too have been way off track for about the past week or so, I just fell off the wagon and have not been able to get back on track. I wake up and start on the right foot and then something happens and I fall off big time. I just seem to have lost my mojo....0

@SuperCarLori awww thanks, my friend. I've been too ashamed to show my face around here, all covered in pizza and chocolate, sushi and chinese food...oh boy, it's been bad.
On the good side, I tried hard yesterday and I did great right up until after dinner when I really wanted something sweet. I've found these nanaimo bars that have like 8g carbs per serving, which wouldn't have been terrible, except I ate two of them. D'oh! Somehow managed to drop three of the six pounds though...3 -

This is soo true...I realized that this morning...I am going through a little something too!! Stay strong, we will get through it together!!

@auntstephie321 - Someone said to use squash in place of the apples...some of them taste fab... And on the candy, I was just looking at lowcarbyum yesterday for something else, and I notice, she has a lot of low carb baking and low carb candy things... I know you don't like a bunch of sweeteners, but something to consider!0 -

@samanthaluangphixay - You know that Pumpkin Spice is generally more about the spice than the pumpkin - AND nearly everything be made in low carb form, too?!?!?! It doesn't take much pumpkin to make things like this. and yesterday, someone posted a coconut flour pumpkin bread that looked to die for...1 -

interesting idea I am a big fan of squash. I can fit some apples into my goal range though, if I could just figure out how to use erythritol properly so things actually taste kinda sweet, I must not be putting enough in or something cuz its always gross1 -

Maybe half apples, half squash so you could do more? Erythritol is supposed to be 1:1 for sugar, especially if you get something like Swerve. But I've not eaten it in anything I like. Honestly, I'd probably do a combo of SweetLeaf stevia with a little liquid sucralose for balance, since it's a special treat. The combo amplifies each other, but I'm not about powdered sucralose. I tolerate liquid okay, though...0 -

It may have been @ladipoet that suggested Cheyote (sp?) Squash once when I commented about an apple recipe.
Apparently the texture and taste is really different from the typical yellow squash that I'm more familiar with. I never did try it because I had to stop trying to make sweet low carb foods or I was gonna lose my *kitten*!1 -

You were close @Sunny_Bunny_ but correct...Chayote Squash is definitely what you want to use to replace apple with if you want a lower carb version of whatever apple dish you are trying to make. It is a squash and is so mild in flavor that it almost has none so you just cook it in some butter, cinnamon and your sugar substitute of choice, et voila....the consistency of cooked Chayote Squash has the same exact mouth feel as cooked apples (except you have to cook the squash a lot longer than you would have to cook apples)! Also, Chayote Squash contains a lot of water so I suggest you nuke it in the microwave first to help get rid of some of the excess water too. Chayote is so mild in flavor that it's very easy to make it taste like apples OR potatoes (yes, really).2 -
It is evolution's way of fattening us up for the winter fast. Don't worry about it, you'll lose it in no time.
About a month ago, I ate Oysters Rockefeller while on a short vacation in Florida, thinking it had no carbs. I specifically asked the waitress if it had breadcrumbs, she said. "No". She was so mistaken, my sugars rocketed up at 2 hours, (my only outlier for the whole trip) out of ketosis, and gained 4 pounds by the time I came home. This was a 5 day vacation folks, and I was extremely careful about what I ate for dinners out and monitored my glucose closely. We even brought our own cold cuts, boiled eggs, nuts, and cheese for lunch meals.
After I got home, it took me about a week to lose it. I believe it was a mostly water gain. Ah, but those oysters were good!!!1 -

Could someone please decipher what the "kitten" I keep reading about refers to? This has been driving me nuts.0 -
@suzqtme mfp replaces any 4 letter words with "kitten"0

Everyone's suggestions and ideas are really helpful! I just fell off the wagon, too, for 2 days and yesterday managed to wrestle it in and went back to my usual whole fat yogurt and peanut butter regimen.
I've fallen off the wagon twice before and am trying to learn my lesson. This last time, I wasn't really craving carbs but nothing else I was eating helped me feel full. I literally felt like I was starving for about 4 days as I stuffed my face with high fat everything under the sun. I had body aches and a headache too. I tried some regular ice cream and instantly felt better. I was relieved but also disappointed. Figuring that feeling better was worth it in the short term, I had a milkshake and French fries that night and regular pizza the next. But, I managed to stop it yesterday and again today so far. That's my food confessional!
This time round, I have incorporated cooking with almond flour and truvia (a stevia based alternative sweetener). This morning I had an extra large lava cake in a coffee mug topped with pecans, peanut butter and yogurt mixed with vanilla extra and truvia. Added a big dash of cinnamon -probably because of the seasonal thing people are mentioning. It was yummmm.
I'm going to keep trying but those two days had me worried. I might make a fathead pizza today, too. Anything to stay low carb. Because the transition back to ketosis is just too hard to risk losing keto adaptation. Luckily, I don't think the two days of high carb undid my keto adaptation.
Btw, I love this group. Thanks to everyone for sharing your ideas and experiences so we can all help each other!0
