Egg fasts, fat fasts, etc.

Forgive me if this question has been asked before. I tried searching the forums, but I only see results for chocolate fasts and peanut butter fasts.
Why is it that people advocate egg fasts and fat fasts for only a limited time period? For example no more than a week? How is eating an all egg diet different than eating an all meat diet? If one is already fat adapted, how is eating only eggs detrimental to ones health?

I'm not certain but I don't think it's necessarily dangerous...just really boring. Most people I know of that have done the egg fast ended up being really sick of eggs pretty quickly. However everyone is different so you might find you never get bored of eggs!0

egg fasts and fat fasts are usually used to break a plateau and they are usually a very low calorie diet which is why they are not recommended for more than 5 days
you could totally do a few days of a vlcd with anything, not just fat or just eggs, but I suspect being limited to only a handful of foods helps to make the foods less appetizing and keep calorie consumption very low
They aren't necessary for weight loss, more of a short term trick and not a long term solution.1 -
I'm sure you could live off eggs if you really wanted to but you'd be supplementing a LOT and would eventually get bored eating just eggs I assume. I know people starting keto get sick of bacon and eggs for breakfast pretty quickly, lol.
But anyway, to each their own. I skip breakfast so I can pig out later1 -
I haven't done an egg fast, but if my food cravings start going a bit haywire, I'll often go from 25-40 grams of carbs to carnivore with very fatty meats for a couple of days (with the exception of the 2/10ths of a carb gram in my tbsp of double cream for my coffee. I'll never give that up! It really helps me with that physical and emotional pull with food, but it's not a state I enjoy for too long as I do enjoy my veggies.0

Personally I tried an egg fast and after two days I quit because I was eating my weight in eggs and butter and still starving. It was totally counter productive to my goals of limited caloric intake while being Keto.1

I would need to eat way too many eggs to hit my calorie/protein minimums. I could never do the "1 tablespoon of butter per egg" because I don't like butter that much. I like butter a lot, but not that much. Still, we are talking 18-24 eggs a day, plus a stick of butter.
Nutrient-wise? It's probably fine. It's better than most people assume. Eggs are nutrient dense.
But, it's boring and not something you will likely be willing to do for long. I don't approve of them, personally, for any period of time. I'm not big on fat fasts of any sort. Just eat real food, your body will catch up when it is ready.1 -
Every time I've been impatient with my losses and tried a fat or egg fast I've fallen off the wagon. It's too restrictive to keep up and for the fat fast the calorie and protein levels are too low,2

I agree with moonlights. The last time I did keto (when I failed miserably) the last thing I remember was doing an egg fast. Not only did I ruin my love of eggs, I also blew my woe, and almost never came back. And gained another thirty pounds. Losing weight faster isn't worth it. Or getting through an imaginary stall. I try really really hard to not switch things up too drastically, and this time around, using this method, I haven't been sidetracked once. For what that's worth.3

I cook mine in coconut oil - way tastier than butter in my opinion!

Probably (although I don't use coconut oil myself). The thing is 8 eggs, my minimum for breakfast of just eggs, needs 8 tablespoons of oil (112 grams if I recall correctly). At that point, my eggs are just ruined by the amount of oil.1 -
8 eggs is probably more than I could eat in a day! I eat 2 and am usually stuffed!
I just add cheese and guacamole and sour cream to the eggs and oil to make a delicious ooey gooey, if somewhat messy, plate!0 -
I think you're missing the word "fast" in there. It's key.
Fasts are temporary. Never intended to be long term. I don't know that eggs would provide all the nutrients needed. I don't know everything that's in them and how it might differ from meat. Seems like there would be some differences but I don't know.
That said, I have done an egg fast for 3 days one time. It was during a period of time that I was absolutely sure there was some way to break a stall I had been having. The same "stall" I'm still in a year later by the way. Though not really since even though I weigh the same and actually even more for a little while now, I'm actually smaller than before.
Anyway, the egg fast did not achieve what I hoped it would, forced scale weight loss, but it was perfectly enjoyable eating that way for a few days. I included cheese, butter and cream when I did it. I didn't follow an egg fast meal plan. I just cooked eggs scrambled or fried, added cheese or cream if I wanted it and cooked them in butter.
I love eggs. I could easily eat them daily and actually do have them for lunch about half the time.3
