Had No Idea MFP Could Do The Recipe Thing...

The wife and I made one amazing fathead pizza last night. I typed in all the ingredients on the recipe setting on MFP. I had no idea it would provide the macros and all that. If you all knew this, please forgive me, but I am a happy camper now.

I get you. I just found out today you can put in the url of the website with the recipe and it will pull it in and even fill in the ingredients which you can edit. Came in handy because I changed up the one I wanted in there to change from low fat cheese to full fat.

I've only been using MFP about 6 weeks and haven't gotten around to trying everything on here yet.

I found that the recipe thing was a bit weird about macros when it came to portions. I find the old one off to the right side of the recipe screen to be more reliable. Also the recipe box does not seem to be searchable. (I might be missing something though) so I am careful about naming conventions so that I can easily find what I am looking for. But yes, it helps alot for those of us who cook.

Yeah, just be careful to make sure that every ingredient is correct. You could put in butter and it will result buttermilk...sigh....

I find the recipe import thing on the site super helpful but didn't notice macros in it. Are you using iphone or is this on their site?

I don't know how the old one worked, but I put the total weight of the recipe in, in grams, when it is cooked - then enter the number of grams I eat when I put it in my diary. I haven't noticed anything odd . . .

As to being searchable - yes, that is a royal pain that I have not found a way around.

I scan, weigh, check and log. Very old fashioned but I have this habit of never making the same meal identical to last time.

using on the site. Not sure if I could do this on my iphone. Given I had to paste the url, it would still be easier to do via computer

I'm the same about recipes....I find I have to go in and change any recipes I've created to match the one I make "today". I had about 4 meatloaf recipes in there at one time and finally decided to delete and just modify each time I make it again.

I too am using it on their site. No phone involved. It is right sometimes. And it imports correctly, sometimes. But I have found its arithmetic is wrong quite often when I eat 1 portion of a recipe that serves 4. For naming conventions, I use the main ingredient, and then the source in the name. It helps a bit. For example: Chicken - Atkins Breaded Chicken Thighs. Then at least I am looking for the word Chicken. I have cleaned up lately because I too do not cook the exact meal all that often. My DH is more predictable in what he chooses to cook.

That's what I do, too. I just update the # of servings to the weight of the new concoction & update the ingredient weights/add or drop ingredients.

Be careful you don't remove and reinstall the app if using your phone, because when you reinstall the app all your recipes will be gone unless you pay the premium to be able to export them.

    Grieving all my recipes... :/

I had no idea, either. Thanks to you I was able to import the Practical Paleo Apple Struesel Muffin recipe that my wife likes so much.

How clever and simple. That sounds a lot easier than the calculations I've been attempting. Thanks!

Same here, someone suggested that a long time ago. Plus it's fun to enter in that you had like 500 servings lol

Now putting it in by weight. How very clever. I would have more hair if I was smarter. Thanks!
