Week 1 LCHF - Reflection

Today is one week of actively trying LCHF. I'm still tweaking things, but I feel more comfortable in food choices than I did this time last week. I'm confident I'll find my flow soon.

I lost 6lbs. That's exciting! I know week one is usually a big week, and I'm prepared to slow down as time goes on. This isn't my first rodeo, but I hope it's more than an 8 second ride this go'round.

I didn't experience any keto-flu symptoms. Am I not doing it "right" or did I just get lucky? Do I need to prepare for it to hit sometime in the future?

Some people get it and some don't. For those that do get it, its usually something they need to constantly keep up. Like me. I am way past week one but I still need to keep salt up, in part because I also have low blood pressure.

Maybe you are already eating enough salt to keep electrolytes up. When I started, I only drank ketoade when I felt I needed it. Like when I physically started feeling keto flu symptoms. Not as a preventative thing.

    Congratulations on finishing week one!

I didn't get it either but I knew about the increased sodium needs before starting so I had extra from day 1.
Congrats on the great start. Just keep doing what you're doing and you'll be just fine.

I didn't supplement initially and had the flu pretty bad, but I also have low bp so that may have compounded the problem. I still supplement along the way as I feel the need to. Congratulations on a great start! :)

Why did I never correlate low BP with the need for extra sodium??? It would've saved me much headache!!
Sorry for the hijack! :) You're doing great!

I have low bp too, even with supplementing sodium I still got symptoms but not till the second or third week. The first week or so typically people feel amazing then, if they aren't aware of the need for increased sodium, things start to get crappy. By the time you have headaches, fatigue, cramps, you've already flushed a lot of electrolytes out and it'll be harder to get them rebalanced. I recommend not waiting till that happens to increase sodium and also get a good magnesium supplement.

Keto flu didn't hit me until 5-6 weeks into LCHF. Because of reading about it here, I was liberally salting my food from the start, but ended up with mild symptoms (headaches, muscle cramps). Keto-ade helped me out, and I drink it almost daily now.

It's great that you have not had symptoms! Just be aware that it can show up later, and know that electrolytes are the culprit.

Promise you won't freak out if the scale stops or even reverses. You've dropped a bunch of water weight, and some of it will come back as your body works to find a good balance. It doesn't mean you've stopped losing fat, even if the scale isn't doing what you want.

Not everyone has bad initial carb withdrawal.

Good job, @MamaDreams0510 ! I started last week, but I didn't get below 30g carbs until yesterday.
