Hi everyone,
I am very much a data person as some as you know, and want to share my one years progress update with everyone. I apologize for the formatting, I had it all nicely tabbed out in word and it doesn't look like that's reflecting in my post.
All results are fasting results. From May until October 2015 I was not following any sort of diet, I was eating carbs and low fat foods like everyone else in my household and my weight slowly crept up into the 300s until I decided to do something about it. Once I had a job I was able to buy my own full fat foods and I started immediately in October 2015. My doctor warned me I was pre-diabetic and put me on metformin as a precaution, but I never did take it. I was determined to control as much as I could with diet.
I'm hoping these encourage some of those that are looking into this WOE. For those that don't know, I follow a keto diet which is very low carb, high fat and moderate protein. I don’t do any exercise other than walking 10-15 minutes to my bus stop and back on my way home, so if you can’t exercise, if you’re immobile, have an injury or you just don’t want to, just know this will still work for you, it will just be a slower progress.
I'm going to share everything I’ve been sent so far so please review and pick away. I’m glad my Triglycerides are down but I’m a bit concerned about my LDL being so high. I do know that LDL breaks down into either large, fluffy particles (good) and dense particles (LDL-pattern B - bad) but it doesn’t look like my tests break that down. More info on that can be found here: http://www.drsinatra.com/what-kind-of-cholesterol-testing-is-best/

A1c values of 5.7-6.4% indicate an increased risk for diabetes mellitus.
A1c values of greater than or equal to 6.5% are diagnostic of diabetes mellitus.
The ADA recommends A1c values of less than 7% as the goal for diabetic therapy.

Interesting...looks good mostly, other than your iron... I forget, @Sarahb29 , are you one of us with low stomach acid? I know that interferes with iron breakdown and absorption... I'm hoping for improved numbers in my iron since I've included the digestion supplements!0
-
Ack I know, my iron is always low! The food I plug into myfitnesspal shows a lot of my food doesn't have a lot of iron, so I'm thinking my Dr will tell me to start taking supplements for it. I didn't ask about low stomach acid, how would I know if I have that? What supplements are you taking?
Since this test I've started taking "calm plus calcium" to make sure I'm getting enough vitamin C and magnesium: http://naturalvitality.com/natural-calm-plus-calcium/
And if I'm reading these results right, does this mean I've gotten myself out of the pre-diabetic range?0 -
Thanks for looking @KnitOrMiss !0

There have been several posts about low stomach acid, gallbladder issues, digestion, etc. that got stickied. Basically, for me, the key parts were:
indigestion/heartburn
farting/burping after meals
passing solid food particles in stool
seeming incompatibility to some fats
many nutrient deficiencies showing on tests
feelings of low metabolism
sugar cravings
constipation/diarrhea or the fun alternating between the two
I take apple cider vinegar in pill form AND NOW brand "Super Enzymes" with each meal. One of each.
I have heart such bad things about actually taking calcium supplements. Make sure you're getting enough K2 to match any D3/Calcium you're taking, as well as Vitamin A 12 hours later and Fish Oil to help prevent toxicity. Absorbing calcium without telling it where to go contributes to arterial clutter...
But I read it the same as you did - out of the pre-diabetic range! Congrats on that. I'd probably still ask for fasting insulin tests if you can, to rule out underlying insulin resistance, to prevent further issues down the road.1 -
I would think that an A1C of 5.2 is out of pre-diabetic range for sure.
Iron - I also have iron issues since I don't eat meat and have found that Nature's Sunshine IX helps, it doesn't have iron but is an herbal blend that helps your body to absorb iron more efficiently. They also sell a mint flavored chlorophyl that you can drink mixed with water.
LDL - in theory an avocado a day will reduced your LDL ...if you give it a try please let us know how it goes!

Thank you so much for sharing all your test results with us!!!

@KnitOrMiss I occasionally have sugar cravings, nothing too crazy though. The other symptoms I don't have. I'll look for those supplements though and will only use my calm plus calcium if my vitamin C is too low for the day.
@tcunbeliever I probably should be eating an avocado a day, I used to at lunch time but lately I've been fasting through lunch. I'll have to toss one in with a salad at night. I am thinking my LDL is made up of those "fluffy" particles and not the bad dense ones, if my Dr calls me about it I'll ask if we can screen for that.1 -
Congratulations on your progress!!1
