Our local health food store was giving these books away today, they said because they were so valuable. Supposed to help prevent and reverse diabetes. Anyone ever use this root? Apparently the part of the spice turmeric that gives it its color (but only a small amount of curcumin is in turmeric).

I have heard of curcumin, specifically in reference to alleviating joint pain - and only in passing for blood glucose control. Most supplements for turmeric have curcumin - and black pepper - to amplify absorption...
So, are you considering adding this to your supplement regime? I find that for me, anything that "aids glucose control" tends to upset whatever my body is already doing, though I'm insulin resistant, and not yet considered pre-diabetic, and working to reverse even that!0 -
You also need to take it with a fat, and preferably heat it for absorption, so really you are better of cooking it or using a golden milk type recipe than just taking the capsule, it's not super bioavailable all by itself.0

Golden milk. I have forgotten about this concoction.

How does golden milk taste? I've wanted to try it, but am a bit leery of it. Turmeric really helps my husband's joint pain and I thought this might be good to try. But I'm a chicken!0 -
Anyone considering taking Curcumin needs to do their research first. While it has a long list of "cures" it also has a long list of risks and interactions with medications.1

Golden milk, there are several variations, so you can google for alternatives, here is what I use:
1c cashew milk
1T coconut oil
1t agave
1t tumeric
heat on medium and whisk continually until it begins to steam, drink up!
taste wise, I find it delicious, the coconut and agave make it just sweet enough to offset the spicy bite of the tumeric...kind of like indian spiced tea...it's also kind of comforting and relaxing as all hot beverages should be!1 -

Yum! That looks amazing. I have all those ingredients (I'll sub sweetener). I also have a head cold so this looks really good right now! Thanks. Worth a try!
I'll add coconut oil to the recipe, too. Just a bit.0
