I know this probably belongs in the fitness category, but I try and avoid the main forums where possible.

I've had a fitbit for quite a while, I find it motivates me a bit - I like how it integrates with MFP and shows me my calorie burn/deficit for the day. Helps to keep me accountable you might say. But the fitbit is not waterproof, and you have to charge it every couple of days. Annoying.

I recently picked up a Misfit Shine. I actually bought it second hand for not very much from someone who bought it and never really used it.

It's light. It doesn't hurt my wrist like the fitbit, as it's round like a watch not long and flat and rigid.

It's kinda pretty. A little brushed aluminium disc. Comes in different colours, this one is blue (not my first choice, but not too bad).

It's a watch. Reviews say it's useless as a watch because it's hard to read. It flashes first the hour, and then the minutes. So if it's 19 past the hour it will flash the 20 past "dot" 4 times. It's actually really easy to pick up and after wearing it for one day I don't have to think about it.

It was not initially easy to connect to MFP though the MFP interface, but from the Misfit app it connected immediately and with no fuss.

It sync when you open the Misfit app. You don't have to hold the device against your phone line the internet reviews say. Misfit and MFP seem to talk to each other with no fuss. None of the weird little issues I've had with my fitbit.

Did I mention it's waterproof - to 50mtrs. I can wear it in the shower, and swimming, and cleaning out my horses water trough.

And - it takes a little flat battery (like a watch or calculator). It lasts 4 to 6 months, no charging.

Now, I'm not a runner. Or any kind of athlete really. I use this kind of device purely as motivation. I don't care about GPS or mapmyrun or whatever. But for what it is, I'm actually really pleased with it.

I actually bought one of those for myself several months ago but then had to turn around and return it because my stupid cellphone didn't support the software app so I couldn't use the darn thing!! :'( I was so bummer out. Maybe my next phone when I finally decide to bite the bullet and get another one (no plans to do this any time soon) will support the FitBit software app.
