I definitely feel powerless. I don't know how to stop. :(

I would imagine that most of us here, if not all of us, have felt that way before, sometimes many, many times before.

I don't have any specific advice except to focus on nurturing the things you may not currently - nutritional intake, sleep, self care, positive self-speak, decompressing, destressing, etc. I wish you ease from this compulsion.

Hi Janie, Knowing your own powerlessness over coe ( compusive over eating) is the first step. In OA we use the book from AA and the 12 step program. You can call Overeaters Anonymous, find out where a meeting is and attend one! Most people there willbe helpful and dirct you toward the literatureand tell how they have gotten recovered from overeating. There are also telephone meetings and groups online. Your admission of powerlessness can be the door that opens a new way of living for you. Look for someone at the meetings who has done the 12 steps and can be a guide for you and will show you how to go about the process of gaining freedom from CO ( compulsive overeating). The 12 steps have worked for me, its been since Feb. of this year for me free from overeating and so I hope that will give you some assurance that there is a way to recover in OA. If you don't find a member of OA in your area that has done the 12 steps, buy the book 'Alcoholocs Anonymous' and start reading at the beginning. Go throuh the chapters and relate the problem you have with overeating to the way an alcoholic is powerless over drinking. Take the instructions as laid out in the book for working the steps. Many people have used them and have gained freedom from their addictions and compulsions. You may find a step group will also have meetings that you can go to where people discuss how they are applying the steps to their daily living. Best wishes, you have made a good start!
