FYI, just got this from Cornucopia.
There's a link on the web page below to a study on carageenan, an ingredient in most varieties of HWC and some other dairy products.

Also signed. It irritated me half to death to pay 3 times the cost for an organic WITHOUT this additive, but there was an appreciable difference, particularly in the insulinogenic effect!!! Grr....0

How can you tell about the insulinogenic effect? Did it cause cravings for you, or maybe the sleepiness you've mentioned in other posts? My store was out of my usual (cheap! but with carrageenan) heavy cream and I *almost* bought the more expensive Horizon brand (no carrageenan), but then I cheaped out. Maybe that should be one of the things I spend more money on....0 -
@redimock - Both! I used it a few different ways, but I made chocolate mousse with it. It didn't cause a heavy phlegm response like the products normally do. It did not trigger cravings (if I had a couple TBSP, I'd want to DRINK the pint previous) - carb or fat. And, it didn't make me sleepy - I even had a serving for a weekend breakfast treat one day...
I only tried this one because it was on sale at Sprouts. It was about $4 for a pint. My normal one I get from Aldi's is $1.75 per pint, so way more expensive, but if I crave less with it and such, I think that's a trade-off I can work towards doing more often. The other ones here still had fillers...even the Horizon Organic here had carrageenan on the label... I was so frustrated!0 -

Thanks for the info! Inspired by this thread - I went out looking for some different cream to try tomorrow. I do sometimes feel a touch shaky after a few cups of half-caf coffee (have chalked it up to maybe needing 1/4 caf), so I think it is worth a try. We just got a brand new grocery store, and so I figured I'd try there. They had *3* different kinds without it. I was blown away (my regular grocery store only has the 1).
I found this for $5.50/quart (usually I pay $4.40/quart, so not bad!). Score!

Cornucopia reports that Carageenan has been banned from organic foods after many consumers supported the ban.

Of course, it will still be present in beer, infant formula, deli meats, and non-dairy "creamer" (which is featured as rocket fuel in a few DIY YouTube vids...)2 -
