Constant sweet taste

OK, so kind of strange, but I am having an episode of everything tasting mega sweet for a few days. I usually have about 1/3 pump of SF Torani Carmel syrup in my coffee with a small splash of goat milk. At the moment, I can't stand either. It tastes so overly sweet, like there are 2 or 3 sugars in there. I also eat SF Jello and that tastes too sweet. I have a constant sweet taste, despite brushing with mint toothpaste. It lasts all day and even my spicy chicken dinner doesn't get rid of it. Thoughts?

Never experienced that. But interesting. I've read that ketosis can produce "sweet breath". Maybe that's what you're experiencing? But then I've also read that ketosis can produce really nasty smelling breath and a chemical taste in the mouth.

I haven't found anything tasting too sweet. ;) Wish that were the case. Last night I ate a few chocolate chips. They were simply delicious.

This seems like an indication that your taste buds are changing.... Or certainly you may be losing your affection for sweet tasting foods. My suggestion would be to go away with the sweetener in your coffee and sweeteners in general. You may not want to continue to eat sweet tasting foods. I try to avoid them myself. They even smell too sweet

I don't use any sweeteners at all any more. What I have found is the natural sweetness of foods is much more prominent now. For instance, cashews (which I only occasionally eat from mixed nuts) are very sweet. Even celery has some natural sweetness.

All starchy foods are broken down into simple sugars by the enzymes in your saliva. Therefore, even though you may not have noticed it before, if you hold starchy food (like white bread) in your mouth for a minute, you will notice it will begin to taste sweet because of the starch being quickly broken down to simple sugars.

Much like other addictions, the more sweet food (and in this case include starchy food) you eat, the more you need to taste that sweetness. If you have moved keto or even non-keto low carb, you will have naturally cut back on the amounts of sweet/starchy in your diet making it easier for you to taste.

It is the same thing as if you were a heavy drinker and quit or cut back by a large amount. Your alcohol tolerance would diminish, and you would get drunk faster.

Hmm, interesting replies. Thank you. Yes, I am low carb (10 months now) and I have found myself gravitating towards savory things now (99% chocolate is languishing in the back of the cupboard untouched). I prefer cheese, salami, bacon, spicy tasting things.

I will try a few days without syrup / jello and see if it makes a difference. Thanks!!
