Oh boy. Halloween and travel has wrecked it's havoc. Well, all I can do is get back at it.

We had SO MUCH FUN with the granddaughters! It was perfect fall weather in Portland. Their school parties were adorable, and going out trick-or-treating with them was the most fun I've had in a long time! Their neighborhood is full of kiddos, (unlike ours at home) and the whole neighborhood decorates to the nines and has open garage parties with music playing and wine for the adults! So fun. :D

Well, back home it's sunny but cool. I'm really tired (those girls get me up at 6 am, lol), but unpacked and ready to get walking. My steps and diet have been totally neglected. So, today is laundry, grocery store, and walking.

Lois, the bug I had didn't affect my tummy, but boy was it a long time getting on top of it. I hate sickness. I hope the flu shot wards off any more incoming bugs for the winter! Feel better soon, and keep your focus on what's most important.

Sarah, I'm so glad for your sister!! That is really great news :) Glad you're back walking with your buddy. Have you been watching the World Series? Final game tonight!!! I have to admit I'm pulling for the Cubs like the rest of the country it seems. The Indians are an awesome team too! It's been a great series. Tonight, Kluber pitches for the Indians. He is almost unhittable. Should be interesting.

Sheesh, halloween in Portland sounds like a blast! Glad you had such a nice time. And those muscles that Lois bragged on for you are adding a little weight, too, you know. The old muscle weighs more than fat (but looks far better!).

Ladies, I truly forgot that today is weigh-in day. I had to log on this morning, get all my inboxes triaged and a few things taken care of, and then drive about an hour around the beltway to get what is known by my agency as a "smart card" renewed. It's really a form of federal ID and it's used to secure my government computer. Had I gone in rush hour, the hour each way would have been at least two hours each way, so I'm grateful that I could get a mid-morning appointment. And what a glorious morning is was. It's warm and sunny here again today and finally the trees have more color.

But weighing never entered my mind as I put on real clothes, instead of the jeans or yoga pants that are the uniform of the teleworker. And I have no idea what my weight will be. The numbers don't look that bad, but yet I "feel" heavier.

Last night I got a great walk in with my walking buddy. She can set a mean pace! But she's not able to walk tonight, so it's up to me to get my behind out the door.

Sheesh, we're also pulling for the Cubs--staying loyal to the National League.

So now, I need to finish up a few things and log off here. Last night I felt like I got something in my eye while I was walking in the mall. I wear contacts and I've learned how to kind of jiggle my lens and let the tears clear it out. I thought everything was fine until I was watching the late news, and suddenly I felt like a knife was in my eye. I took out my lenses and flooded the eye with saline and thought it would be okay. But I'm noticing now that that eye is just not quite right. Hubby and I were laughing the other day, saying that it used to be that something would go south every few years, it would get better, and we'd fine for a time. Now it seems like something goes south every few weeks or months. So I guess I guess I'd better take a look at the eye and get the walking shoes on.

I'll weigh in tomorrow, I promise.

So it's once again more or less stable. If I were at a weight I like, I'd be jumping up and down happy. Instead I'm a bit frustrated that once again, I'm in that 140-142 range. I suppose I should be relieved that the Halloween candy didn't push me up further, but gosh darn, that little message you get when you complete a day's logging of food always says that if I ate like this every day, in 5 weeks I would weigh 130-something. And yet that never comes. Lying little message! LOL

Tomorrow I have to get out in traffic once again to drive down to the offices of the company that now holds my contract. They're couching it as just want to meet you in person, yada, yada, yada--but then they throw in little hints that I'm afraid means that they are hoping I can help them with business development. My job is so demanding that I do not have time to do unpaid business development work. Say prayers that I don't find myself in a bad position.

But back to the business at hand, last night was more like a September night than a November night. I walked my hilly outdoor route and felt more energetic than I have felt in days. Some days, I slog--others, I walk with more energy. And I was glad to feel some of the energy last night. But yet I'm not getting the scale moving and I need to do that before the crazy work hours come. I know that the combination of not moving and having high stress are deadly for both my weight and my spirit.

Forgot to add: Congratulation to the Cubs, and hats off to the Indians, too. What a great World Series. Wish the sportsmanship displayed by these teams and their fans could be duplicated into other areas of our life. Next year for the Nats or the Giants, Sheesh.

Sarah - thought and prayers with your new job and the appointment. Positive thoughts that all will go the way you wish. Congrats also on the reduction.

Sheesh - your fb pics of Halloween were adorable!! the grandbaby's are so much fun.

The World Series was Crazy and I only watched the last two innings. Pretty fantastic. I didn't have any preference on who won, and from the stats...both of them deserved their "curse" to end.

Still down with the tummy crud. I felt better Wednesday early day. Wednesday night hit hard and with a vengeance. Was up all night and still attempted to go into the office. I lasted about 2.5 hours when it started again and I raced home. This week I wish I had stock in Immodium. haha. I have not yet stepped on a scale because I know it's only water. I've been drinking pedialyte daily and moved from my coffee to mint majesty tea. And saltines.

    will check back later.

Gosh darn it, Lois. What's up with your tummy troubles? I had to take antibiotics for the pulmonary infection I had, and it caused some problems for me. My daughter recommended drinking Kombucha tea (which I did and continue to do) and also warm organic chicken bone broth. I think those remedies helped a lot. . you could try it . . can't hurt.

Grandkids are the best! So much fun. And, the Halloween wine photos you posted, Lois, are great! I want to look for them . . but, I do live in Utah with limited variety at the state run liquor store. :/

Sarah, congrats on the loss. And it sounds like you're getting your energy back and feeling better physically from your injury. You're right that more things "go south", and stay there longer, ha ha! We just have to use the patience and wisdom that comes with getting older. We give up some things . . and gain in other ways. That's my zen thought for the day, lol.
And, I'm sending good thoughts for your meeting.

Yes, congratulations to the Cubs!! That series was so fantastic . . and the final game was worth staying up for, lol! Very exciting. Sarah, next year . . .

Sheesh - I got the wine at Cost Plus World Market....Still unopened. I recall visiting my little brother in Rexburg when he was in college so many years ago. Oh the look hubby and I got when we ordered a drink with dinner (7/7 for hubby and I think I was drinking tom collins back then - I had to tell them how to make it). - also keep in mind, hubby is Filipino, had a long mullet (that now is a massive braid to his bum). But it was funny. Oh and then I asked baby brother to stop at the market to pick up a bottle of wine for the house...yeah. I'm Catholic, wine is good. My brother's dad is LDS and I hadn't realized Univ of Rexburg was LDS...oops. my bad.

Tummy is mellowing out...a little. But hey...guess what?!?!?! I'm down 8lbs. Weiging in at 117 yesterday morning...hahahaha. I can't recall the last time I was HAPPY seeing 117. OH dang it's been YEARS. Oh and another positive from this, I'm off coffee. I'm drinking the mint majesty tea from Starbucks now or Tazo's refresh mint. Soothes the belly. I was able to eat some foods moving off the broth yesterday. Hoping today is a better day. I was able to keep in some pita bread yesterday and a handful of popcorn (saw Dr. Strange - so so good).

It's Monday and I'm back at the office. Better get to it. Have a great day!

Gosh, Lois--it sounds like you've been battling norovirus. Sometimes recovery from this mean bug is slow. Glad to hear you didn't get dehydrated and that you're coming round the bend. A major problem with this mean bug is that people are contagious before even know they're sick, so it goes through offices and schools like no man's business. 117? Are you vanishing before our very eyes?

I'm riding an anxiety wave today due to a work issue that I'll explain later and trying to get a ton of stuff done before company arrives tomorrow. Honestly, we didn't even sit down until 8 p.m. last night and I was pissed off when I looked at my steps and found that I still had only 7,000. A lot of the work didn't require much walking. So after falling asleep for a short time on the sofa, I woke up in a funk about 10 o'clock, grabbed my jacket and flashlight, and walked our cul-de-sacs until I felt the vibration!

Tomorrow, my ability to walk will be very limited since we have a big dinner party starting just about the time that I get off work. Walking to the school down the block to vote may be about it for me. Feds are allowed up to several hours off to vote without using leave, but contractors are not, and we must also cover for any Feds who are away. So I expect that tomorrow will be a busy day at work and entertaining people I've never met is different than having a bunch of old friends over. Trust me. This was hubby's idea (LOL) !! At least he's channeling Jacque Pepin and is cooking the standing rib roast and Maryland crab cakes. But I think I've mentioned that cleaning up behind himself as he cooks is one skill he hasn't mastered yet. Mise en place? Every "mise" he can find NOT "en place" is more like it! :D

Damn....that's 217. See what I mean!!! See what happens when i try to do stuff early in the am and don't have my coffee. I do miss it. I can't even keep numbers straight. our office was hit pretty hard. A couple of us had at the beginning of the week with the relapse at the end of the week and a few new people having it. and most everyone (not me) did get flu shots, but even they are getting it. I've been drinking a packet of pedialyte every day to help stay hydrated along with the water and tea.

Super impressed with you going after those steps. I was at 8200 and didn't have it in me to finish - so my hat's off to you!!! Praying for your work to be somewhat less stressful, though I think you and I crave some of the stress that comes with our jobs. Let's just dump the excess. Ok? Ok. I'm good with that thought.

Norovirus is different from the flu, so the flu shot won't help with that, but it tends to also hit folks in flu season (November through April). My own experience with a really bad case of it about 15 years ago is that if you can keep yourself from getting dehydrated, it will eventually run its course, but if you get super dehydrated, it can make your blood pressure bottom out. So keep drinking that pedialyte. Trust me, if I had or was coming off a super stomach bug, I probably would not make anywhere close to 8200 steps. You're doing more than fine.

My stressors now just give me that old "ice in the belly" feeling and play with my sleep. (Though I have noticed a burning in my neck and shoulders, which is probably from not relaxing at all.) If you ask hubby, he'd probably also tell you that it makes me hypercritical. >:)

And you may be right about getting something out of some of the stress but needing to let go of the excess. I know that I need to accept that not everything is in my control or is my responsibility and that sometimes I just need to let the whirling dervishes whirl!

Well, up at 5:30 and NO ADDITIONAL STEPS!! Not hiking, nope had to make it to the polls to vote before work. There are not many things that will get me up before 615, but this was one of them. almost an hour in line, and tried to step without looking silly, but I was too self conscious. hahaha. Anyhow, the line moved fairly quickly and I'm done. Now to pray that our nation isn't torn apart from this one. Soon I may be able to enjoy Facebook again.

Anyhow, I'm in the office, I have my tea and some oatmeal again (and my pedialyte still as well). So far yesterday was good so I'm going to stay on that same course today.

    Have a great day everyone

For the first time ever, I didn't even look at my fitbit steps yesterday. We had two local friends and four out-of-town friends coming for dinner and we bit off more than we could chew. The menu turned out to be items that all needed to go in the oven for various times and various temps. Our saving grace, if you could call it that, was that our next door neighbor was not home and let us use his kitchen. We called it the satellite kitchen. So even though I had a rugged day at work (and that is going to get even more intense), I got in almost 7000 steps just trying in spurts to get everything done. Hubby was off work and did the lion's share, but once again, things took longer than we had expected (and we had even developed a timeline). The meal was delicious, but I haven't logged a thing for yesterday yet and frankly, I don't even know how to log some of it. I'll give it try when I can.

I'm with you, Lois, about the hope that we won't be torn apart, but I am not very optimistic.
