Boron Experiment Results

I don't remember who initially recommended a boron supplement to me, but whoever it was - thank you so much!!!
Several years ago my mildly nagging carpal tunnel took a huge turn for the worst. Which meant that whenever I overdid things with work or sewing or weight lifting or pushups I was in agony for days while my body healed. Then just over a year ago days to recover became weeks to recover and the amount of activity I could do without aggravating my wrists was much lower than previously. I was wearing wrist braces almost 24/7 and weight lifting was reduced to 2 times a week, sometimes less.
I'm an herbalist, so naturally I started trying herbal remedies. Found MSM, which dramatically improved my recovery time as well as my tolerance for activity. After about six months I increased my MSM which resulted in even further improvements in my tolerance for activity, but my recovery time remained at a few days and it was still quite possible to overdo it, but I was only wearing the braces at night, I was able to do daily activities without a problem. The increase in MSM did cause me some sleeping issues and after researching I added topical magnesium at bed time - I don't understand all the science, but MSM somehow increases magnesium metabolism and boosts melatonin production, but you can't uptake the melatonin without sufficient magnesium...it worked, now I sleep like a champ!
Then someone here recommended a boron supplement, after some research I began to take it in the morning with my water. Much like MSM, this is something that impacts cell wall structure and takes about a month to see results. I'm on week 5 of boron supplementation right now. Week 3 - I began to notice that my recovery time was reduced. I could lift weights in the evening, knowing that I had pushed the limits and go to bed with aching wrists, but then I would wake up with no pain at all - no residual ache, no evidence that I had overdone things, it was like a miracle overnight recovery. Now it also appears that my tolerance for activity has received a boost. It has been about 2 weeks since I had any sharp nerve pain in my wrists - and I'm currently lifting weights 10x/week - a frequency I would never have been able to sustain previously.
So, whoever you are that recommended boron - your information was very helpful and has improved the quality of my life - thank you!!!

@tcunbeliever It probably was me. I started taking Boron about a year ago after some extensive research. While my results haven't been quite as dramatic as yours have been, I'm happy that the research I've shared helped someone else. Many times I end up feeling like a supplement cheerleader, but when they really do make a difference, and they are naturally sourced, and they don't generally interfere (most indications are WELL published), I don't see how it can hurt to put a bug in someone's ear so that they can do their own research and such.
I'm beyond thrilled that you've had such dramatic improvements! So, in your research, did you find that it was better taken on an empty stomach? I've been currently taking it with my D3/K2 and the like with my first meal. If there is research showing it better results on an empty stomach, I can add it to my pre-meal time "slot." Worth a try (reaches over to grab her boron...)...
So yeah, I'm a HUGE supplement cheerleader. Ain't that right, @baconslave? LOL0 -

A lot of us need help outside "the box." They really need to restock that sucker better.
edited: because I shouldn't try to communicate before coffee is done. Just sayin'.1 -
I think I'm DEFINITELY an "outside of the box" -er... I love finding wacky ways to solve old problems. I'm sincerely wanting to start package deals or something on Amazon.
Like random factoid? Did you know taking tyrosine at specific times of day dramatically improves thyroid function?0 -
My dosage:
1t borax diluted into 1 liter water - then 1t of this concentrate daily, I just put it in my morning water bottle which I think is 15.2oz...I don't notice any flavor to it at all...I haven't had any digestive issues or other negative side effects.
I am taking it on an empty stomach, but that wasn't really planned because of the empty stomach, but because I usually drink a bottle of water on the drive into work and it's a convenient time. On the weekends I still drink a glass of water before starting on coffee, so it's still on an empty stomach.
Hashimotos runs in my family, so now I'm totally going to have to research tyrosine...I already take thyroid activator and thyroid support...but as far as I'm concerned I can never do too much to keep my thyroid happy...I do not want to have to deal with the issues that have plagued all of my other female relatives...0 -
@tcunbeliever - It was spelled out in Maria Emmerich's book I just downloaded in the free set - which had said it was the last day 3 days ago, but I got an email this AM saying today is the really real last day - so if you don't have it already, you can still get it. Basically it was 1000 mg of tyrosine first thing and then mid morning or so... I already was taking it in the early AM (not quite first thing), and added it with my second cytomel dose, mid-morning, and I instantly felt that pick-me-up... It was good.
She listed out about ten supps you can add for thyroid health, depending... The Thyroid Pharmacist had some good research...and a few others. The Adrenal Reset Summit on Day 4 right now has had fabulous info about using supps and essential oils for that, too...0 -
I downloaded the book!0

@KnitOrMiss @tcunbeliever -
They're probably already on your radar, but there are a couple talks on thyroid issues at the Fat Summit (now streaming):
fatsummit.com/schedule/

can't watch that stuff at work (they frown on that) or at home (low speed internet)...
I've been enjoying the info from the summits that gets posted here though, never hurts to pick up some more tricks!!!
the hard part of the issue for me is sifting out what is general thyroid info and what is relevant to hashimotos since most thyroid issues are not autoimmune in nature0 -
I've been focused on the Adrenal Reset Summit, @RalfLott - and a Mom-related (hippy-trippy, granola, natural cleaning/self care products, supplements and essential oils and all that jazz) summit right now. I keep hoping someone else is enjoy the current FAT Summit!
EDITED TO ADD: I've watch a number of Fat/Keto/Diabetes Summits already, and even the recent Thyroid one, and no one seems to touch on the nutrient side of it as much as I'm having to do at this point, so I'm waiting for someone to hit that epiphany...0 -

@tcunbeliever - You would have loved the Thyroid Summit that was last week then. Frankly, I got frustrated because the only thing they were talking about was auto-immune hypothyroidism, Hashi's, Grave's, and all that. I've had 2 of the 3 antibodies tests, and my condition does not seem to by auto-immune driven, though I could be wrong. I was SOOOOOO frustrated as EVERYTHING was AI this and AI that. Please let me know if you want the link, as I think you can still purchase the talks - or at least look up the speakers individually.0 -
it's weird how they are so different - you would think good for the thyroid = good for the thyroid, but depending on the root cause some of the treatments for AI version make a non-AI version worse and vice versa...our bodies are amazingly complicated pieces of equipment...too bad it didn't come with an owners manual!!!1

KnitorMiss, I would love the link. I have Grave's. Thanks!0

@Patti2008 - thyroidconnectionsummit.com/
You probably have to sign up, but the main lady, the organizer, she claims to have reversed her Grave's disease, so this should have some good info for you!0 -
Thanks so much!0

@KnitOrMiss - I have hypothroidism too but not Hashimoto's. Like you, I got very frustrated that the speakers pretty much ignored people who do not have auto-immune thyroid issues. I stopped watching the series because of this.

@bametels - Me, too. Sincerely. I think I watched 3, maybe 4, presentations, and that was counting the initial one I got sent as a freebie. I did learn a few things from THAT one, it was all autoimmune.
I'm getting a lot more out of the Adrenal Reset Summit, if it helps, as it seems that a lot of non-autoimmune thyroid issues may stem from adrenal fatigue and/or nutrient deficits.0 -
I'm pretty sure this is the original thread:

Yup, I'm taking L-Tyrosine on an empty stomach first thing in the morning as suggested on my supplement bottle. That and the selenium with my later meal (dinnertime) have done wonders for my thyroid antibodies level - down 63% in 6 months from 1107 to 408 u/ml. Continuing with that protocol to try to get my levels down to normal (under 60).1 -

@baconslave - You saw who posted the links, right? You remember I'm famous for rabbit holes and black holes, right?
So you realize the math here, right? You did this to yourself, babe. Love you!2 -

Yeah, I know I walked right in it. With both eyes open. I'm def in a rabbit hole mood today though. Now I have to go do *kitten* and have to pull myself out of the hole. I'll be wondering about what's around the next turn all day. How to keep a masochistic idiot busy, right?2 -
Thanks so much for posting this! My husband had both hands operated on a few months ago, but he still has tingling/numbness and slight soreness running down his hands. I'm going to pick some of this up for him.0

I spent 5 straight hours sewing yesterday...a feat that would normally leave me in agony for weeks pre-MSM and days post-MSM...post MSM+boron, I woke up this morning with no pain at all...it will never cease to amaze me...3
