Hey All! Been AWOL for a bit. Took DS to Bozeman MT to check out Montana St. My first time in Montana. He loved the school. Great mountain biking there. Road biking not so much. Road surfaces rough from snow (ploughs) and minimal shoulders. Otherwise it would be spectacular.

So no riding last weekend. Taking tomorrow off and likely doing early morning ride. Then going to Las Vegas to do the Honor Ride r2r.convio.net/site/TR/Cycling/General?fr_id=1124&pg=entry

Got this years numbers back (Goads know what numbers I'm talking about) And not a pretty picture. Significant increase in A1C and Glucose. So for about 10 days now, I've been doing the LCHF ketogenic thing. Was able to do pretty well with it so far - laying off all bread and sugar. Vegas shouldn't be a problem since we're staying at a friends, not at a hotel. Haven't weighed myself. It's worked for a number of my friends, so thought I'd give it a shot. Hard to say so far. Haven't weighed myself yet. Feel a little thinner. I'll give it at least a few months. I am experiencing a diminished appetite which was as advertised, so that's encouraging.

What's on tap for this weekend?

Hey good luck Mark!! Got out yesterday for my hilly loop and had fun today too. They are building a new piece of trail off a paved wetland access DW and I like to ride. The new piece has been graveled and flattened with a "steam roller" type machine. It has some major switchbacks on it and great fun. My new "do everything" bike has inexpensive front shocks, and rack and fenders as well. It is replacing my old hybrid and has 700 x 38C tires with gravel biting outer edge and nice pattern in the middle which rolls find on pavement. Perfect machine
for this unfinished trail. No one is doing anything on it right now and not sure when they will pave it. Very cool indeed. Will get out tomorrow and maybe do my hill climb loop.

    Have a run ride Mark.

My trusty steed through the equivalent of losing a shoe or worse coming up lame. While riding home from work last night (in the dark) all of a sudden there was a knocking noise consistent with the wheels turning. At first I thought something was hitting the spokes but upon further review I found a crack on the rear tire's rim and the crack was hitting my brake pad. So I hobbled along to my LBS which is on the way home and ordered a new wheel. Won't get a new one till next week but I think (if all the spokes are there) that I have lighter weight wheel I can mount the cassette on to get by till the new wheel comes. I have a new chain and cassette I can put on the new wheel when it comes. Today was the first time I drove to work since April.

yes the new wheel is $175. I get it could be worse as it could have been carbon fiber. Still have the road bike and the weather looks good for the weekend with temps in the 50's which for November in WI is nothing to complain about.

I set out to do ~30 miles today but ended up with a flat ~4 miles into the ride. The tread on my rear tire got a cut in it. I fixed it but wasn't able to get enough tire pressure into it with my little hand pump. So I headed back home and have now ordered a CO2 inflation gizmo to keep with this bike. I have CO2 inflation for my road bike but never thought I needed it for my commuter bike.

Oh well, a little over 8 miles will just have to suffice today. It was a nice afternoon to get out.

Wow. Sorry about the mechanicals folks. Glad you were able to get back home safely.

The Vegas Honor Ride was overall very cool. Police escort down the strip. Unfortunately I was not riding very strong so I had to cut it short. I'm keeping very strict to my Keto diet, which meant at this point I have no glycogen stores but not yet in Ketosis (burning fat). So basically I had no energy. Still managed to crawl 46 miles. Hopeful that I'll start to see the benefits that my friends have. Here's a cool pic of riding down the Vegas strip.

found a light weight wheel in the garage that had been replaced with the one that failed because I was breaking spokes right and left. Hope to limp along with that one till the new wheel comes in.

Gadget girl another alternative to CO2 is the Topeak Road Morph pump. It comes with a hose, foldable foot and and a pressure gauge. It looks like a mini floor pump and I am able to get my hybrid tires fully inflated. I have it clamped to my water bottle cage.
