I just started the program yesterday and I am so looking forward to October in Litiz PA for their zombie fun run obstacle course. Anyone else ever do a zombie run?

There's one coming up in a few months near me. I asked my sister if she wanted to do it with me. She had back surgery a few years ago and declined on that basis plus the fact that they're not regular 5Ks. They have you running through woods and obstacles (like buildings) at dusk, so you can't see very well. Thus she worries about hurting her back, and I'd be clumsy enough to sprain an ankle or something!
It sounds like a lot of fun, but I do worry about it and might just stick to regular races (not counting stuff like Run or Dye/The Color Run)!0 -
This one I'm during starts at 10:00 in heats with 15minutes between each heat, with the last heat starting at Noon. This one is through a town and there are a few things to climb over but you are welcome to skip them. It might increase you chances of getting "eaten" though0

I'm not to the point where I wouldn't get eaten yet but I'm working on it. I want to do it and get the survivors bragging rights!! Maybe in '14 when my speed has increased.0

At the minute I'd still be lacing my shoes and someone would be chewing on my leg!
I'd love to try it when I can go a bit longer and faster though0 -
I'm a VERY slow runner and tomorrow is my 5K day. To celebrate the occasion, a friend and I are participating in Chicago's Zombie Run. In all honesty, I'm not ready and I'm expecting to "die" but I'm gonna have so much fun doing it...even if I have to crawl to the finish line tattered and exhausted. I'll try to come back afterwards to let you all know how it went.0

We had a BLAST at the Run for Your Lives Zombie Race...even though training for a traditional 5K is the wrong kind of training for this type of obstacle course/race. The race was held at a motocross track so there were plenty of hills, some quite steep. Part of the race led us into the woods and hardly any of it was held on level ground. We also had to sprint at our top speeds to avoid the zombies' reach, leaving us exhausted after making it passed the zombie infested areas. These infested areas were cleverly placed either right before an obstacle (having to catch your breath before attempting the obstacle) or right after (having to catch your breath before sprinting past the zombies). EVERYONE, even the most physically fit people, walked whenever there was no threat of zombies or obstacles that required a running start.
Overall, it was very challenging and extremely fun. And even though I didn’t make it to the finish with all of my flags, I had the time of my life. One of the great things about it was that there were people from all walks of life with varying athletic ability, or inability, and everyone was there to have a good time.
However, if your intent is to make it to the finish line without getting caught, I’d recommend trail running with plenty of hills and sprint training.0 -
