Ketone levels

So I have had the sneaking suspicion ;) that I'm in ketosis...lost 11 lbs in a month, hubby says pee stinks and I need to drink more water, breath smells, decreased appetite...but I still wanted some physical evidence. So I bought some sticks to analyze my urine. I got a reading of 40 (moderate level) Is that good? Can I add some carbs back and still safely be in ketosis? Should I be worried about that number going higher? As of right now my net carbs are usually between 15-30. I still want to lose about 12-15 more pounds. Whaddya think?

You are definitely in ketosis. If you want to maintain full time ketosis then I wouldn't allow total carbs to climb above 50g and that's only if they are all coming from green veggies and dairy. Deducting sugar alcohols from sweets and fiber from "low carb" faux breads can be a slippery slope for keto. Not so much for general low carb though.
Just decide which you plan to live your life and do that.

Congrats on 11 lbs a month! Everyone's different they say. But I would think that you could probably go up to about 50 carbs and still stay in ketosis. Increase your carb intake by 10 grams a day and see what the sticks say to see where you stand. I've read that people can eat up to 100grams a day and stay in ketosis.

Also somewhere here was an article/thread about fat adapted vs ketosis saying even if you are out of ketosis your body might keep burning fat. I still need to research that.

Yeah I'm not eating too many sugar alcohols, maybe an occasional Atkins bar treat. I'm not sure what I'm doing yet being just a month in...but I'm definitely liking the results, and all the support on here. Thank you!
