Chocolate an sugar substitute

Hi. I am somewhat new to all this. I tried walmart brand stevia and it had an awful aftertaste. I also ate Hershey's unsweetened cocoa powder and Hershey's choc chips. Each time I ate either of the chocolates I ran to the bathroom. Is this something that will pass? Or is there another brand I can try? I am missing my sweets. Also, what is a good sugar substitute w/out aftertaste? Thx so much!

How do you know it was the unsweetened cocoa powder and the chocolate chips that caused you to run to the bathroom? They both seem like unlikely candidates to me unless the chips were sweetened with a sugar alcohols. What did you eat with the cocoa powder? I doubt it is something you ate from a spoon without an accompaniment.1

If the Hershey's chocolate chips were sweetened with sugar alcohols they can cause diarrhea.
Try a blend of stevia and erythritol (swerve is one brand). Tends to taste more "right" partnered up.
I've seen liquid stevia blends of different kinds too that I have tried that tasted pretty good. Sometimes the ingredients are questionable but as long as it doesn't make me feel like eating non stop, I usually think it's ok for me. But in seriously small amounts.
If you use any of the liquid sweeteners you're better off than a powdered one. And it seems many more people tolerate stevia, erythritol and sucralose (all liquids) pretty consistently well.
As far as chocolate. Choose a brand that's not adding anything to it. My favorite is Green n Blacks. I prefer the 86% but if you think that's too bitter, I honestly think you're better off with the 70% as opposed to an artificially sweetened one.
Other brands I've bought are Lindt, Ghirardelli, and Endagered Species and other organic ones.3 -
Thx for ur help and suggestions!0

I have yet to find any artificial sweetener that has no aftertaste. Even Stevia powder and white sugar tastes funky to me. I use a minimal amount of liquid stevia in my cream cheese raspberry fat bombs, but I don't make them too often as I have a problem controlling how much sweet stuff I eat. I was craving hot chocolate a few days ago, so I made some bulletproof coffee added 4 drops of stevia and a lindt 90% chocolate square and it seemed to do the trick. ( I am 20g or less carbs)0

I've made mochas with unsweetened cocoa powder (green &black's) and coconut cream (not milk). The coconut and chocolate mixture can be refrigerated and turns into a pudding like consistency that's pretty yummy. I don't add any type of sweetener to it, the coconut is naturally sweet enough (with very minimal carbs).2

The sweet cravings do pass, and are a symptom of the overall problem. After a while you won't even miss it, or want it. I still occasionally have something like a quest bar or protein bar (super low carb ones) but the sugar craving is an affliction of the carb addicted. "Replacing" carb foods such as sweets and baked goods with low carb versions is a slippery slope, and counterproductive to breaking that addiction. Not saying don't have your chocolate (a couple of squares of 85% dark chocolate is very low carb and satisfying) just be careful. Far better to move away from "the way you used to eat" than try and replicate it.2
