This thread is for GOADies who like to run. New runners, old runners, and even wannabe runners meet here to discuss the joys and challenges of running. Use this space to log your miles, ask questions, share your race reports, or for anything else related to running.
New runners - and even those just thinking about starting out - are always welcome. There's no reason to lurk here. Join the pack and tell us about your running!
Oftentimes the GotR thread will pose a question or raise an issue in order to facilitate the conversation, but this is always an open forum to chat about any running-related topic.
Today's Topic: running through the deep freeze.
Are there still some runners among us? What's the plan for coping with the arctic blast coming our way? Bundle up and hit the streets, or maybe something in the great indoors instead?

I'm still here! Running before work in the morning has been put on hold due to the snow we have gotten this month. I'm simply not comfortable running in low light conditions on icy sidewalks and trails. I hit black ice in broad daylight last January and fell hard on my sacrum. Nothing broken but I was in a lot of pain for about 2 weeks. Not willing to risk a repeat of that. But in daylight on the weekends, I'm game to get out. I have microspikes I can put on my shoes that give me excellent traction on the trails.
That being said, my choice lately on weekends has been to put on the snowshoes and tromp through the fresh snow. I got in 4 miles last Sunday and hope for a repeat tomorrow morning.
During the week, it is run/walk intervals on the treadmill. I did take a bit of a break due to my cataract surgery this past Tuesday but did toss in some running intervals today. All felt fine.
I'll have to start ramping up after Christmas as my first marathon is April 1st. I have my first snowshoe 10K on January 8th up near Madison, WI.0 -
I ran last Saturday at an indoor facility about 15 minutes from home. I'll say this: it wasn't as bad as I though it would be. I had a good time chatting with friends and the time went quickly. I ran 10 while two of my friends were finishing up an 18 mile run.
I got off schedule with work demands this week. Still thinking of running today, resting Sat, then long run on Sun . . . but, feeling kind of blah right now. Lightheaded. Yuck. We'll see how it goes.0 -
The cold front is supposed to hit here Saturday afternoon. I plan to run tomorrow morning while it is still in the 60s.0
