I was restarting New Rules (I had to stop due to getting Mono) and I was at the gym doing my squats. Since i am just starting over and not yet at 100% strength I started with just the bar. I wrote on my progress sheet "bar", then this guy (who was creepily looking at my progress sheet) walked up and said "Hey that bar weights 45 pounds, it's not just a bar." So my question is; when using a heavy bar to you include the weight of the bar or just the weights? I had previously just counted just the weights and wanted to see what others do.

I counted it as 45lbs since that is what you are squatting then when I added a minimal amount of weight I added the 45 to the weights total. I might be doing it wrong I just started last week.

I add bar weight to all my lifts........i.e. dead lifts @ 135 = bar + 45lb plate on each side

Definitely add 45 pounds to the weight of your plates if you're using the Olympic bar!

You absolutely add the bar weight.
