This thread is for GOADies who like to run. New runners, old runners, and even wannabe runners meet here to discuss the joys and challenges of running. Use this space to log your miles, ask questions, share your race reports, or for anything else related to running.
New runners - and even those just thinking about starting out - are always welcome. There's no reason to lurk here. Join the pack and tell us about your running!
Oftentimes the GotR thread will pose a question or raise an issue in order to facilitate the conversation, but this is always an open forum to chat about any running-related topic.
Today's Topic: What are your long term running goals for the new year?
Alt Topic: Where you at, GoaD runners?

I'm here!
Goal for 2017 is to finish a marathon in under 6 hours. Best attempt in 2016 was 6:08 during a snow storm that turned the middle 5 miles into a muddy mess. I'm taking another crack at that particular marathon on April 1st. We will see if Mother Nature pranks us again.
I have 2 other trail marathons on my radar in the fall but dates haven't been announced yet.0 -

I started to respond to this with some measurable goals - X number of half marathons, x number of miles for the year, etc., but after further thought I realized that is not why I run. My goal for 2017, as always, is to have fun and enjoy running. Nothing more, nothing less. If I do that the numbers will take care of themselves. Of course a few podium finishes wouldn't hurt.....1 -
Definitely no mileage goal for me, and no particular race goals either. I'm a little down on running at the moment because of continuing discomfort. I should resolve to get my issue checked out, but would like to take a serious stab at strengthening and stretching once again. I think I know my issue, and the solution, but just haven't successfully committed to solving it.
6.2 miles around a couple of the Minneapolis lakes today. Beautiful day, but a bit too windy for comfort.0 -
My butt hurts, but I still had a nice 4 mile run. ;-)0

4.9 mile run this morning with my running buddy. It is good to have her back running on a regular basis. For a variety of reasons she didn't run much this fall. But now that she is signed up for the Chicago marathon, she is motivated again.
I'm starting off 2017 with renewed vision and no lingering joint/muscle issues. If I can avoid impacts with asphalt and other unmovable objects, it could be a good year of running and other outdoor pursuits!1 -
Bitter cold here this week. I ran on the TM on Weds, took Thurs as a rest day, and will hit the gym after work today. It will be above zero tomorrow morning and I'm aiming at 6 or so miles in the great outdoors.
Next weekend I'll be in Key West for my half marathon. I'm not ready to race, but will apply my sunscreen and enjoy a well-supported and scenic long run. Can't wait!0 -
@Calvin2008Brian - have a great time in Key West! It would be hard from me to go from training in the cold to running a race in the heat. It takes me a long time to even partially adapt to heat. I had a marathon in the snow in April then a 1/2 marathon just two weeks later when it was in the 70's. I almost did pass out due to lack of time to adapt.
As for me, I had some short run/walk intervals on the treadmill on Wednesday and Thursday. Tomorrow my friends and I will layer up and go run 8-10 in the single digit temps. Sunday is a 10K trail race (was supposed to be snowshoe but the snow melted) up near Madison.
