Blood type diet, farce or fact?

My daughter just e-mailed me to say she has joined a gym and they are working out a menu based on her blood type. She needed to know what her type was.
So, I did some checking. According to this, she would only be able to eat the things she doesn't really like. Mainly vegetarian, whole grains, and whatever spirulina is.
I checked what a menu for me would be, blood type O, and it is very much like what my surgeon said to do, so I was just wondering what you all thought. SHe is not a diabetic, just overweight.

I have never heard of that. I would say to avoid anything that seems like a fad...0

I don't put too much stock in it for me, I;m an A so I should avoid meats. As someone who eats very low carb, I eat a fair bit of meat. I'm a celiac so most grains don't agree with me, and I've never eaten much fruit. The A type diet doesn't fit me well.
It's interesting to look up though.

Type O blood: A high-protein diet heavy on lean meat, poultry, fish, and vegetables, and light on grains, beans, and dairy. D'Adamo also recommends various supplements to help with tummy troubles and other issues he says people with type O tend to have.
Type A blood: A meat-free diet based on fruits and vegetables, beans and legumes, and whole grains -- ideally, organic and fresh, because D'Adamo says people with type A blood have a sensitive immune system.
Type B blood: Avoid corn, wheat, buckwheat, lentils, tomatoes, peanuts, and sesame seeds. Chicken is also problematic, D'Adamo says. He encourages eating green vegetables, eggs, certain meats, and low-fat dairy.
Type AB blood: Foods to focus on include tofu, seafood, dairy, and green vegetables. He says people with type AB blood tend to have low stomach acid. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and smoked or cured meats.2 -
Yeah I read some of it, and although it is similar to what my surgeon has suggested for me (I'm O+), I think that's just a coincidence. Like Jane says, I don't like fads whether it's diets, clothes, furniture, what have you.
I just hope my baby girl doesn't get ripped off, or discouraged to get healthy.

In general, how do you tell at present whether some diet or program will later prove to have been a fad or a legitimate approach that the current, mainstream health industries didn't like? (Remember that Camel once had ads showing doctors puffing away, their preferred butts .... er, being Camels.... )
The Blood Type Diet sounds suspicious, to be sure.
But we should expect to see a cascade of science-based, personalized nutritional and other medical approaches in the coming years, and blood type, of course, is a significant genetic variable.
