Trying to Build Muscle

I am a 106lb 18 year old female trying to bulk up a bit. Not get the "bodybuilder" look, but just have visible tone.

A little about me, I lost 40 pounds over the course of two years when I was 14-16, but I became underweight and was there for about another year before adding a few more pounds and reaching a borderline-average weight. Now, I am still petite but am trying to gain strength and muscle mass, without gaining fat weight again!

I have done a fair amount of research, but I just get overwhelmed by all the information out there. I cook everyday, and eat a modified paleo diet so I have the food quality part down (for the most part, I cheat on rare occasions). I also workout regularly, mixing up light or medium cardio and strength training exercises. I am just not sure I'm doing it the right way, so could anyone give me tips or advice please?

Oh, and I also plan on entering a Spartan Sprint in the Fall!
