BASIC INSTRUCTIONS ON MFP USE

I think a basic tutorial for some of the things that we are all used to doing on CC would be nice. I know that there are the help buttons and we could most likely search them out here. But, sometimes we would just like a friendly hand holding and a nice pat on the back. So, feel free to add instructions or things that you have discovered here. Please make sure to note if they are DESKTOP or MOBILE APP instructions, since there is a difference.

ADDING PICTURES - Mobile App
From the app, press the + button located at the bottom right.
Press the Weight button.
You can add a change in weight or leave it the same, date defaults to current.
Press the camera icon on PROGRESS PHOTO
At that time you can choose and existing photo or use your camera to take one
Press OK (if the picture is what you want)
Press the checkmark at the top
At that time you will get a list of your weights and pictures posted.
Scroll down to the current picture and tap it.
You will have the option of displaying the picture as one picture or as a side-by-side
Press the share icon at the upper right
At that time you can customize it. Scroll left or right to choose the border
Press NEXT
You can then enter a comment and choose who to share with (My Fitness Pal Friends Only is probably the best bet)
You can also share on Instagram and Facebook - but really, your high school buddies don't want to see your salad!
Once done customizing, press the check at the top
BOOM DONE!!

ADDING FRIENDS -Desktop
To add someone you have a user name for:
On the main page, go to COMMUNITY
then go to FIND MEMBERS
a MEMBERS SEARCH box comes up
One of the options is to search by member user name.
Enter the user's name there
Their profile will come up and you can press the ADD AS FRIEND button
If someone added you:
At the very top there will be an envelope (for mail) and a head (for people who want to be friends)
Click on the head and accept their friend request.
Once you are friends with someone and want an easier way to add more friends:
Go to your profile (MY HOME - PROFILE)
Scroll down to find your friends.
Click on a friend it will take you to their profile
Scroll down to their list of friends and you can click on each of them to bring up their profile and add them as a friend.

Do you know how to post pictures in the comments section on Home page from desktop? Also I am waiting to see your shoe collection.

Nice shoes!!!! So far, per MFP, there is no option for adding pictures to the news feed via desktop. However, per Gabi, they said they were working on it. Pretty easy with the phone app.0

Instructions for changing your notifications - desktop
OK, this one is pretty easy but if you don't do them, they garbage up the news feed.
From the desktop, choose SETTINGS at the top
Then choose AUTOMATIC NEWS FEED UPDATE SETTINGS
There are a list of things that will show up on your news feed.
You just check off or on the messages you would like to have displayed.
Once done, click on the bottom to save your changes
This is where it would be REALLY NICE if you controlled the congratulatory messages that MFP gives you because not only do these messages show up on your own news feed but that of all your friends. Very easy to garbage up the news feed with congratulations about stuff and things like logging for a whole 3 days.... woot woot.... except times 100 for every friend, times 100 for every time they add a friend, times 100 for every time they burp. etc.

Tap SETTINGS
Tap on SHARING and PRIVACY
Tap on NEWS FEED SHARING
Turn off or on
Click back arrow to return to the menu.
Again.... (see message above) The notices that you send to your news feed appears on the news feed of all your friends.3 -
So pictures from mobile app only?0

Pictures from mobile app only, at this time, from what I heard from Gabi... she has secret inside sources that say they are working on it.... but it just may be FAKE NEWS.4

I think I added mine from a mobile app.0

Very helpful, thanks. Simple solution for the one problem, is to banish anyone who burps (But we have to wait for Ed to get on here before we can banish him --don't worry he and I like to poke each other once in a while)1

Does anyone know if there's a way to see who you've sent friends requests out to as well as the ones coming in - dropped a few people friends requests but getting a bit out of step now!!
Also ChelaRocks - thanks for the pointers above, extremely useful. A lot of settings available - it's all just becoming a blur at the moment on the choices we have for notifications etc.2 -
Not sure gplowther - maybe online? I use app mostly ... I had a problem at start where I lost people !0

Hello! Thanks for the tips.
I seem to be having trouble adding some exercise. My running/walking syncs automatically from my Garmin so that's cool.
Tonight though, I did a circuit session at club and wanted to add it.
When I click on the 'add exercise' option, then search nothing comes up.
If I search in the 'Database' tab I can find what I want and tell MFP how long I've been doing it for etc, but I can't see how to add that information to my exercise diary.
I am probably missing something obvious.0 -
Hi Earth ! I I use the app so I'll tell you how I do mine from app. I go down to the + button in middle of home screen ( iPhone ) and it opens up semi circle of options. I then pick exercise , next up pops either cardio or strength so for me if I pick cardio then another page comes up. This page has my exercises , custom and all. If you click on all it brings up enormous list of things. I verify this to other sources still because I'm still not sure of it accuracy and adjust accordingly if there's a massive difference z I also add it to my favourites too so I won't need look it up again I'm not sure if this is any help or not - hoping it points you in right direction!0

Thank you Trishcolli. I had another go in the meantime and it turns out that 'calisthenics' is listed under cardio rather than strength training... When I searched in the cardio options, I found it and added it successfully!
I knew I was missing something.1 -

This proposed change would be very nice to have.1
