Everyone says it, but just how do you do it? How do you take the guidelines of the WW program and turn them into a lifestyle you can live every day...from now on? That is what we are here to explore. Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Newbie? Join in! Veteran? Join in! Your thoughts may be just what someone else needs to hear.

Today's topic: Vacationing

When you are on Vacation do you stay on the straight path and find Healthy eateries or do you eat just any place and choose what may be the healthier option or do you just eat what you would like!

Do you seek out a place for extra activities to keep you moving or is it just a relaxing vacation and except a possible weight gain!

I try to eat as healthy as possible but have made bad chooses on foods that I thought were healthy and ended up with way more pts. than I expected Sometimes I eat foods I normally don’t get.

I plan vacations more on travel to visit places that are handicap accessible so my activities levels are not very high.

When on vacation (and even at home) we pick restaurants based on menu and ambiance/location. we love seafood which makes most places easy to accommodate our healthy diet needs. Typically I will eat about 80% on plan, the other 20% is related to an increase in adult beverage consumption and 1-2 desserts. Are vacations tend to be active, sailing, hiking, and walking a lot...but I do not do formal exercise while on vacation. Normally I plan to maintain, if I do gain it goes away pretty quickly.

I do eat special regional foods depending on the city or country I am in. I don't eat special meals every day and normally have modest breakfast and lunch. It is not an "all or nothing " approach for me. Activity for us, especially walking, is sought out. Both DW and I feel better moving. If it is not a car trip we do walk a lot. We are both retired.

I eat familiar foods for breakfast and lunch except maybe when abroad so no surprises pointwise.

Back when my wife and I were able to be more active, we would often hike quite a bit on vacations at Nat'l parks or seek out some trails. They tended to be overall active vacations. Even then we would eat pretty much on plan but set aside 2-3 meals to enjoy a nice diner etc. We usually did pretty well and typically would hold or lose weight during the week. It is harder now that I can not be as active and we have to be more careful to avoid the wheels coming off the bus. But we are mindful while on vacation either way.

Vacations are an opportunity for me to be active in different venues. DH & I eat one meal out per day and do our own cooking for the others.

I tend to be very active on vacation because I love exploring so food is never a huge concern for me.

I try to find local venues and choose something that sounds delicious but reasonable. I also try not to go too overboard because I hate feeling like garbage on vacation and junk food makes me feel like crap.

We don't typically go on vacations. We do, however, go on a couple retreats every year. Food there isn't too "healthy", except for tossed salad. We try to hold down on the desserts, but the after dinner social time can be a killer.

I usually make some mindful choices, but nowhere near what I do at home. After a cruise, my WI the 1st a.m. we get back, I'm usually up about a pound for every day we're gone. The next morning about 1/2 is gone, leaving me with pounds to lose again.

We leave in 10 days for a cruise, with a day on either side in FL. I'd like to do it different this time. Time will tell.

Re. activity, we usually walk a lot on vacation, and we plan to do that, and make trips to the gym this next trip.

As I lost weight, my vacations became more active. I think since starting weight loss I have lost a lot more on vacations than I have gained. Back in the day I would try to concentrate on a CORE approach on vacation. Now I just proceed as usual.

And just in general, I've never been a fan of days off, cheat days, eff it days, or vacations from weight loss.

Mixed bag for me. However, before starting WW I used to vacation specifically for food options. That's how much food mattered to me. It's not that I would eat the whole time but I love the Mom-n-Pop places, local foods, etc. It was part of my 'American experience' and it was a central theme of my travels.

Now, a few years in, I still enjoy those foods, but in probably a much healthier proportion than I used to. I haven't taken a whole lot of vacations but when I do, there's more emphasis on exploring the area, photography, etc. Those things can actually almost fully occupy my time to the point that when I went to SC last year, I actually lost weight! I'm about ready to do another one of those...

DW and I go to places we generally know nigh have foods that I have an opportunity to be WW friendly for me. We don't necessarily go out of our way but we do stay away from places that we know are not Ww friendly or the choices aren't that good. Occasionally we have looked at the menu and left but that's pretty rare.

Most of the places I just pick the best option for me. If I have the points I'll splurge alittle but that's fairly rare to. Seafoods are our best option most of the time but we watch the prices as seafood can get out of hand.
