TKD MARATHON TRAINING

Would love to hear from anybody who has experience of training for a marathon (or an endurance event) whilst following a targeted keto diet (TKD) or even a cyclical keto diet (CKD) for that matter.

I have researched and researched and the variations (and science) are vast and seems to be down to 'try what works for you'. As a base line I have gleaned that on long run days I could consume up to 40g of additional carbs an hour before my longer runs but may get away with less on shorter runs. I want to be able to use up all the fuel during the run to ensure that I remain in ketosis thereafter.

Any help or your experiences would be hugely appreciated.

Here is an abstract for a study done by Dr. Jeff Volek. I don't have a subscription to this journal, so I can't see the full study.

This is a longer write up based on this study, but for a company that is trying to get you to buy their product, so take it for what it is worth. I think the it is a fair write up based on a video posted by Dr Stephen Phinney who partners with Dr Volek frequently on which he discusses the advantages of keto for endurance athletes.

Although I am not a marathoner, I do know since being fat adapted, my endurance is much better. When I run, I am not limited by endurance anymore, but rather by the fact my knees just can't take the pounding like they could 2-3 decades ago. Basketball, football and racquetball in my teens and 20's really took a toll on them.
