I will probably never post very much because I'm just not much of a talker, but I'm so glad this group is here and want to thank you all for the fabulous threads that I'm reading.

I will likely never be a zero carb person even though I see nothing wrong with those of you that are. I simply like my veggies and Greek yogurt too much for that and I will want quinoa sometimes. However, low carb is apparently where I belong regardless of doctors (and almost every other person in my life) opinion. I lost nearly 100 pounds a few years back because I was diagnosed with type 2, but then adopted a child, had my husband choose meth over his family, got a divorce, dated a complete waste of oxygen for a couple years, moved halfway across the country, stressed out over supporting my son alone, etc. I gained back most of what I had lost and didn't really care that I had. Jan 4 the doctor flipped out on me when I went in about a sinus infection because my blood pressure was dangerously high (148/106). I then checked my sugar for the first time in forever (also way too high). I started the same thing the doctors put me on back then, South Beach. However, at the end of the first 2 weeks I thought about it, why add back the carbs? No reason, so I didn't. I'm down 11 pounds since Jan. 4 and yesterday my blood pressure was 120/79. I was feeling sick yesterday, in the past that always spelled disaster because I would run to junk food because i didn't feel like eating anything else. I didn't feel like eating at all yesterday. Most of the calories I did get came from cheese and I didn't get brownies or cookies or chips and justify them by saying it was only 1 day because I was sick (which of course would always turn into well I already messed my week up or only the weekend or something in the past). Cheese is part of why low carb works better for me than the low fat thing. I don't miss bread, but when trying to do low fat the cheese and walnuts scream my name.

My son is now eating a lot lower carbs (though not as low as me because there's no need to not let him have some Oreos as a treat or the tacos and pizza he loves he just doesn't need them every day like he had before) too and his ADHD is under better control and less autistic meltdowns, some might say coincidence, but I don't think so.

This woe is so much easier for me to stick to and I love that this group is here for me to read threads and not feel like everyone is judging me or telling me but you NEED grains (which came from a friend the other day). Coming here and reading, even when I don't talk helps keep me sane.

You've overcome a lot in the past few years. It's a hard story, but a success story nonetheless. Congratulations and welcome to the group. :)

I have a son on the spectrum who does a bit better with lower carbs. He isn't low carb, but we know high carb is a problem. Fruit is where he gets most of his carbs.

We have a couple of members who use the diet to treat ADD/ADHD too. I hope it continues to work for your son... and you. :)

Definitely no coincidence on the improvement of ADHD. I've reduced my meds by half! It's been great for me!
It sounds like you're in a great healthy mental place with understanding your needs and also what you don't need. That's a big step in itself!
Congrats on the great start too!

As a zerocarber, I want you to know that this is perfectly fine. It isn't for everyone. Everyone needs to find their own carb level that works best for them. Some people find that they can do fine over 100 gram. Many find that just staying below 100 grams works. Others find the need for lower levels, or find other benefits from lower levels.

You just need to do the best plan for you. I now all us "meat only" people post more than others. It's just a vocal minority, not the only way.

As a zero carber I second what @Fit_Goat said! We all have to find OUR carb level where we feel best, and works for us! Its great that you are here! Welcome to an awesome group of people!! Lurk away!
