First let me say to those of you zero carbing or LCHF I don't judge or care. If your doctor is okay with your diet I don't know why anyone else should GAF.
That being said I do (as the above suggests) the South Beach but blended with Paleo and Primal. I'm pretty sure I have seen my last bite of white potato or refined sugar. (outside of the relatively very minimal use of it in some dishes. ie 1tsp in Thai Chicken Coconut Soup.)
My focus is the Glycemic Index and Glycemic load of foods. Its likely I will never, personally have another dish that exceeds a GL of 15.
I'm also timing it to eat the ones that hit my blood stream the hardest before bed. Why? So that the craving causing peaks and valleys hit while I'm asleep. No foods over GL 5 before noon either for me. Again keeping my blood sugar nice and low and level has proven to be successful for me.
SO! Here is why I am posting. Today after being on a low glycemic diet load diet for a month I discovered something. I recently purchased sugar free 100% natural peanut butter. It was delicious. Why? Probably because I am finally over my need for things to taste sweet. I also took a bite of plain greek yogurt and it tasted just fine. What does this mean. I can put just plain fruit with natural sugars in my yogurt and it will taste just fine. I don't even need Splenda anymore (except for in my coffee) This is so awesome to me because foods in their general natural state is all I need. I'm actually afraid of eating a donut or anything like that now. God knows I don't want or need to go back to that way of eating.
Healthy eating is just so much easier when you don't WANT to eat crap food. My son is starting to follow suit too. The other day for dinner he ate raw fresh grape tomatoes, black olives, almonds, cheese and chicken. He still gets bread and rice (growing kid that runs around like crazy)but he's a big fruit eater I'm hoping he will grow up not wanting or needing to eat candy bars and junk food.
Anyway thanks for letting me join! I'm happy to be here and looking forward to reading about everyone else's journey/struggles.

I hear you on that! It's amazing how much your tastes change.
My husband has gone lower carb (not as low carb as most in this group, but a really good change for him). He's lost 24 lbs and feels great and now things he used to enjoy (soda, desserts, etc.) almost all taste too sweet for him. It's also amazing how much the natural sweetness in vegetables comes out when you've cut back sugar!0 -
I had the same kinds of taste changes. It's got to be why I've been able to stick to it for almost 2 years. I love the food I eat and I don't feel deprived in any way.2

Welcome to the group! Glad to have you here.
I had pretty much the same experience as you - after kicking sugar to the curb, I could finally taste the natural sweetness that exists in most foods, some that even were very surprising like a plain salad with no dressing tasted sweet just from the veggies that were there.0 -
Welcome! I am a moderate carber as well, but have focused on drastically limited all sugars, even those naturally occurring in food. You will like it here!0

Welcome! I value the input of moderate low carb folks. I have this idea that even *if* 50% of the population "needs" keto, there is another 50% who does not.1
