Hello,
I'am 53, active gym member weights, cardi and classes also do average 7-12thousand steps per day.
Lactose a1 protein and gluten intolerence. Other than that fine.
Been told that I don't eat enough carbs has in pasta, spuds, grains or lentils. I can leave spuds and pasta or manage a bit. 1200 cals per day and 30% is carbs which comes from 20g porridge oats and veg. Usually have 17-25g left end of the day. Plenty of energy. Was brought up veg first meat next then if still hungry spuds.
Is this enough carbs?
Thanks
Wendy

Is your purpose weight loss? For weight loss with a healthy body, macros are a personal choice in my opinion. I lost all my excess 60 pounds with my carb macro set to 40% which ranged from 160 total grams down to 120 total grams. 30% of your 1200 cals is what-90 grams? Sounds like plenty to me. It is not keto level but certainly is less than the general rule of 100-150 for low carb. See what works for you.1

Technically you can healthfully go to zero carbs as long as you are eating quality animal products. We have a few members here who are absolutely thriving on close to a zero carb diet (there are trace carbs in meat, eggs, full fat dairy and herbs).
They rely on fat for fuel and energy. You may notice a very slight dip in energy is switching to ketones for energy but it is transient. A large energy dip would probably be due to an electrolyte imbalance.
Anyways, if you are feeling good at that level of carbs, and you are able to meet your goals, stay with it. There is no carb minimum, nor is there anything like a carbohydrate deficiency.
Best wishes.4 -
There is no minimum requirement for carbs. You don't actually NEED any. It's up to you to decide how much you can eat and control your appetite and weight.
I eat zero carb. That's what works best for me. Someone else might find 100g a day is best. Lots of people in this group are eating well under 50g a day. Some people include small amounts of starches like potatoes while others strictly avoid them.
But you don't NEED any carbs. Just play around with what works for you to get to your goals and what doesn't. Then don't eat the things that seem to just make you hungrier or don't keep you satisfied and cause you to need to eat all day.2 -
For the last month or so, I've been averaging about 16 net carbs a day. I have plenty of energy to make it through the day & even for hour long workouts too.0

I'm 63 and though I'm not into weights, my exercise amounts to brisk 5 mile walks and/or maybe some aerobics, zumba, etc. for an hour +. I keep my carbs well below 50 total and feel fueled fine for my purposes.
If ever I feel sluggish it is not carbs I need but rather increased sodium. Especially on those hot summer walking days which may be somewhat similar to a hot gym. If you feel fine eating what you're eating there's no need to increase carbs.

FWIW, I have my macros set up so my carb goal is under 29. I beat that handily almost every day. When I go over I still stay under 50. I was at 18 net for today. I am a newcomer to all this, but this level is not burdensome for me. I feel good and can eat leafy greens (which I like). The fiber in them makes the net pretty low.1

I'd say your carb level is fine. I aim for under 50 a day and usually hit about 30. I run and lift weights regularly. No energy problems!0

I have 15-20 total carbs per day. Exercise daily. No problem. I guess my point is minimum carbs is an interesting concept. Essential is to have sufficient protein, besides that, it's your choice.0
