Recently diagnosed (type 2) and other than general advice to stay away from carbs and sugar it's been hard for me to figure out what I SHOULD be eating. What are some of your favorite diabetes friendly foods and recipes?

I've been struggling with the same thing even though I was diagnosed last July. I also have the added problem of not eating too much fat, making sure I get enough protein, and not to lose anymore weight. It sounds easy, but it can get tricky.
I like omelettes. Lots of veggies in them, a bit of cheese. Very little carbs and you can make them in a number of different ways. 1/4 of your plate should be of protein (meat, beans, or fish) per meal. Half your plate filled with veggies, and the other 1/4 with a starch. Potato, rice, whole wheat breads, cereals.
There is a facebook page called Diabetes - What to Know Community. the people there can be quite helpful.3 -
Quinoa, lentils and rolled oats are starting to be my "go to" choices. From what I've read, high fiber foods are an important part of a diabetic's diet. I also stopped drinking my sugar (sweet tea, all sodas, most processed fruit juices) entirely. I recently made some red lentil chili in the slow cooker - high fiber and low sugar. I've also noticed staying away from processed foods helps me. Pre-packaged meals, fast foods etc tend to make my bgl spike.0

Cheeseburger pie is my favourite dish. Ground beef with onions, mix in mayo, eggs, some (sugar free) ketchup, worchestershire and mustard and bake it. Yum.
My favourite snacks are cheese, nuts, pumpkin seeds, pepperoni sticks and veggies with a cheese or sour cream dip.
Most meals are meat and a veggie, breakfast is often egg and a meat.
I skip the starches and most fruit and baked goods (I bake with coconut flour). I eat to my glucose metre, and those are the foods that raise my BG most, so I avoid them or really limit them. I'm another who skips most processed foods... but I can't include bacon or pepperoni in that.
The book, Dr Bernstein's Diabetes Solution was big help to me. Its a low carb plan with the goal of normal BG, not just diabetic "normal". You might want to look into it since you are staying away from carbs and sugar.
The Low Carber Daily group might be helpful too. They have some good LCHF diabetes info in their launch pad sticky.
Good luck.
