After a major carb overload I am going to try and get back to ketosis. My question is.... should I fast for a few days before starting the coconut oil in my coffee and avocado/egg yolk breakfast or should I just hit the eating high protein/fat combo??
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

I personally don't feel that fasting as a "fix" to a binge is healthy from a mental standpoint. I am all for fasting for other reasons, but not in relation to binging...too easy to develop disordered eating.
I would just drop your carbs to your limit and enjoy the protein and fat that fuels your body.

I agree with this as well.1 -
IMHO, If you just came off a "major" carb overload, do you think your body & mind is capable of handing a fast at this time...without going off the wagon again?
I would suggest going back to the LC eating lifestyle before you relapsed so that your body can get accustomed to this WOE (again) before you fell off the wagon. It'll take a few days for the strips to turn colors, but it'll be worth it. I wouldn't suggest fasting unless you're at an advanced to expert level on doing this technique. If you're falling of the wagon and asking for suggestions on how to get back to ketosis, I don't think you're ready.
Hopefully I didn't come off rude. I just know that a LOT of people on these type of forums need tough love (and a kick in the butt). We're all adults here. We know right from wrong. We know what we need to do. We just need someone to give us the push (or a hug) every now and then.
And If I may make a suggestion. Incorporate a bowl of chia pudding. My morning favorite (if I prepared it the night before), is to put 4 Tbsp in 10oz of water. When ready, I put it in the microwave for 2 minutes, or put it in a pot and cook it over a low heat, add a pat of butter, and about a Tbsp or less of sugar free maple syrup. It's way more filling than eggs, or eggs and avocado. Plus, it'll provide you with ZERO net carbs (if you buy the right brand of chia seeds. The brand I bought is 5g of carbs, plus 5g of fiber). This pudding, plus a mug of "Bulletproof" coffee, and I guarantee you won't be hungry until late afternoon. I also started to add a scoop (1/2 a serving) of Isopure Zerocarb vanilla protein powder. Making the pudding ZERO net carbs, and 37g of protein! My suggestion is to add the protein after the pudding is hot, and use a WISK to blend in the protein powder. If you use a spoon, it comes out lumpy and powdery. And... if you want more, just add more than 10oz of water, but stick with the 4 Tbsp of Chia seeds. It'll thicken up. Good luck and hang in there!
Here's my "Chialicious" recipe:
4 tbsp Organic Chia Seeds - Healthworks
Calories 240 • Total Fat 18 • Total Carbs 20 • Fiber 20 • Protein 12
10 fluid ounce Water
Calories 0 • Total Fat 0 • Total Carbs 0 • Protein 0
1 Tbsp butter
1 Tbsp sugar-free maple syrup
** Optional **
Isopure Zero Carb Creamy Vanilla Protein Powder
Calories 105 • Total Fat 1 • Total Carbs 0 • Protein 25
** Optional #2, instead of sugar-free syrup, try this: **
One serving of sugar free jello. But I suggest you reduce the water from 10oz to 8oz or less. Or just stick with 10oz, and put the pudding back in the fridge and let the chia seeds expand some more to get thicker. This gives you a whole slew of flavors for your pudding (well, they have lime, strawberry, strawberry kiwi).

Major carb over load is an extreme. Fasting to offset it, is an extreme. Learn to behave somewhere in the middle.2

This!
I'm on my second week back from a major carb overload. So I get you. I just went back into like I was starting from scratch, and my body is responding that way. Today is one week back in and I'm down close to five pounds, we know that's not going to last, but I'm riding that wave!
I feel good doing it this way.My body doesn't deserve to be punished by starving it. What I need is to take BETTER care of me, mentally AND physically. I'm right back to feeling super committed and dedicated.
You can do this too!0 -
When I recollect my carb-sucking days, I imagine myself craving food if I were to fast..... and it would probably be for rambunctious grains and starches, not gentle avocados and eggs.0
