My wife and I are going on a cruise soon. She was concerned about what I was going to eat. Me, not so much. I am good at getting creative. However, I just got an email talking about dietary options that says,

"For breakfast, brunch or dinner in the main dining room, we can provide our guests with the following special dietary needs:

· Low-Cholesterol
· Low-Fat
· Low-Carbohydrates
· Low-Sugar
· Low-Sodium"

There was also something about accommodations for those with diabetes, but I think we all know that is likely based on ADA guidelines which is full of.....well, you know.

I feel bad for the schmucks who will be eating the 1st, 3rd and 5th option. They have no idea what they are missing.

I have friends who only travel by cruise ships now, they have special dietary needs and they just tell the staff about them and they have it their way. They did Australia to USA round trip last fall and had no complaints about food.

Just a suggestion - don't tell them you want to eat LC. Choose the foods yourself. Some cruise lines will actually choose your food for you (in the dining room) if you choose a specialty diet. I learned that the first day of our cruise to Alaska when I was given a very small menu with food I didn't eat (like fish). I asked for the regular menu and I would choose for myself. The server actually had to get the manager to approve it. I was like, WTF?! I'm the customer, I should be able to choose what menu I want! On our subsequent cruises, I refrained from telling them any special dietary concerns.

I'm going on a cruise in October. I don't have any problem with making good food choices because there is just so much to choose from! And if there's something I want that isn't on the menu, all I do is ask and 9 times out of 10, they will have it.

Have fun on your cruise! Where are you headed to?

Thanks for the advice. This is a Caribbean cruise with a couple of stops in Mexico.
