question about weighing food

So, I'm trying to be precise in my intake and my question is do you weigh food (specifically meat) before or after cooking?
Also, I just weighed some bacon, the interwebz tells me that 100g is like 515 calories, my bacon was 58 g - 2 slices (~300 cals) and the package says 2 slices for 140 calories. WTF!!!!!!
Thanks!

Bacon has different amounts of fat so it will be different between cuts.
Also, are you using a consistent comparison between cooked and uncooked?
You should go with what the packet says.0 -
I had it cut for me at a polish deli, where of course I don't have access to nutrition. So I looked up cured pork bacon (general) online. And I was comparing it to the other stuff I buy. I know it was a bit thicker cut, but it just seems crazy that it would be that much. I'm not all that concerned about it. Just thought it was crazy.
But am still not sure about when to weigh other meats (such as chicken).

I actually wonder this myself. I buy a bag of frozen chicken breast. It says 110 calories for 4 oz. But it doesn't say what state it should be whether frozen, thawed, or cooked.0

Usually it's however it's packaged. So if it's a package of raw chicken breast and says 4 oz is the serving size, then that's raw weight.0

I should have probably realized that myself. Oh well, now I know! Thank you! :flowerforyou:0

If purchased without nutritional information on the label, use the MFP database entry (the one without the asterisk in front of it) and it will say whether cooked or uncooked.0 -
