Mid to high I'd say. Beautiful work.

Indeed. The guy who posted it up said his neighbour made it for him. Nice neighbour.

Update... the guy posted the website of the woodworker/neighbour. This is a fulltime gig for him, making "regimental trunks" and urns.

Very nicely done website. Considering the quality of the wood, fittings and the workmanship, the pricing is very fair. I see he's booked out to 2018. Certainly shows the value of his work.

Clearly, there is a market for that kind of high quality work in that kind of niche. Hmmm...

Yeah, I've been cogitating on that. I'd contact his guy first if I started making these out of professional courtesy. I suspect the emblems are trademarked and difficult to get as a 'far-fighter carpenter.

I think the crest is copyrighted rather than trademarked. I'm not sure but I think anyone wanting to use the RCMP crest have to get consent but it isn't that difficult. It is a matter of presenting the proposed use to RCMP Strategic Partnerships & Heritage Branch. In the case of commercial enterprise, a percentage donated to the RCMP Veteran's Association or similar forms of patronage goes a long way...

His particular design isn't that similar to the trunk I got. His trunk is much much nicer; mine was (is?) utilitarian. During the divorce, I allowed my ex to take mine. It really wasn't much of a prize.

Interesting. I might hone my skills on a test one, then contact Russ Lefler to see if he feels I'm stepping on his toes if I build these. Between boat builders we're very respectful of each others work and designs, and I wouldn't do this commercially if he felt it was inappropriate. If I did proceed, I would do the right thing with the veterans association.
