Hello again,
Sorry if I'm annoying you all with my questions. I wish they would add a search feature to the groups, it would probably save everyone a lot of time. But I like to know what I'm doing before I screw my body up.
So, just had a protein bar by Grenade called Carb Killa because I had a chocolate itch which these seem to scratch quite well. It boasts only 1.5g of sugars, 1.5g of Impact Carbs. When I looked at the nutritional info on the back it said:
Carbohydrates - 13.6g
of which sugars - 1.5g
of which Polyols - 10.9g
So I looked up Polyols and the general assumption (and dumb-down version, because that is how I roll) is that they don't affect your blood sugar levels because they are sugar substitutes, ergo they don't count. Now, I've never heard of Polyols so I don't know whether to take this literally. They (as in the general 'they') don't add the amount of sweeteners to the total carb count, so why have Grenade included Polyols? Is it because they want to be super helpful? Or have I blown my carb count for the day?
TLDR: What are Polyols, and do they count?
Also what do you suppose 'Impact carbs' are?

I think Polyols are referring to the sugar alcohols from sugar substitutes. Some people subtract them entirely when counting Net Carbs (or impact Carbs) some deduct 50% of sugar alcohols. It all depends on how it effects your body.1

Impact carbs is a different way of saying net carbs. So if you count net carbs you'll be counting impact carbs. If you count grams of carbs you'll be counting 13.6 grams for that bar.
side note: Polyols is a term used in Polymer Chemistry. I my industry we know that Polyols are compounds with multiple functional groups available for organic reactions and are referred to as "initiators" or "catalysts" and are used to produce the curing of thremoset resins. I was all JFC WHAT IS ACETONE doing in that bar!? *cough* Polyols are alcohols....so they refer to sugar alcohols in foods. And with that, I'll kindly bow out of the convo. lol3 -

Ha ha That's hilarious! I think I would notice if acetone was in there.
So I'm gonna be on the net carbs side of the fence today
But thank you both for explaining, I wish they would have just said net carbs, *eye roll*2
