Carbs? How many?

I had VSG July 2016. I am down about 80 lbs. I want to know what people are staying around for carbs. I have heard so many different things about this. My nutritionist wants me to do 100g. But some people are saying that is high. I am so confused.

I think it really depends on your body and how your body uses the carbs - along with the type. My nutritionist said to start at 30 net carbs and add to it until you no longer lose - then you will have an idea as to how many you should get in total. My number is typically around not having any more than 50.

What Elyse said... seems like everyone has a different tolerance level when it comes to carbs. If your nutritionist has experience with WLS patients, give her recommendation a shot and see how it works out for you.1

I feel like 100 is high. But I feel better when I eat more carbs. Lol but I can see how they would slow down weight loss.1

If it's not hindering your weight loss and you feel good, go for it. I've just upped my carbs to that level at 18 months out. My personal trainer has been pleading with me to raise them for a while. I've seen a huge energy boost, along with gains at the gym. We have to learn to listen to our bodies. There are days I keep them lower, and I'm ok, but overall I shoot for about 100grams.

Something else I was thinking about when it comes to carbs - when I focus on my protein, I pay less attention to my carb intake than when I let things like sugar or starch into my diet. For example, looking at my food diary today, I have 68 grams, and those carbs are from things like soy milk, skyr, beef jerky, a bit of veggies, so I am not going to stress over those carbs. If my carbs were coming from sugar or bread or starch, simple carbs, I would be more concerned and I would take a closer look at my diet.5

@garber6th - that is exactly the mindset my nutritionist advised me to use. She said if I was hitting my protein target and avoiding simple carbs, things would be just fine.
I do worry about the complex carbs sometimes. I just never realized before how many carbs are in veggies and fruits. And then of course it's easy read a post in a Facebook group where somebody is going on about only eating like 2 carbs a day. It's easy to stress out over this topic.0 -
Agree with what is mentioned above! I follow a low-carb but I still eat "good" carbs.0

I eat as many fruits and vegetables as I want. I rarely eat processed carbs and stay away from sweets. I'm a proponent of the it's not how many carbs but which type. For anyone who's worried about fruit, have you ever heard of someone getting fat from fruit? I probably have 3-7 servings most days.1
