Weekly Challenge: March 28th- April 3rd

This week's mini challenge is to abstain from (or limit) alcohol consumption. It's only a week, we can do this! I know that while I consider myself someone who drinks in moderation, it is a factor in my weight gain and/or inability to lose weight.

These are empty calories which are predominately carbohydrates and with drinking often comes late night snacking. Recent studies have shown that consuming alcohol is one of the biggest drivers of excess food intake.

Other benefits of reducing alcohol consumption include clearer skin & improved sleep. Who doesn't want that???

But make sure this week that you don’t substitute any other heavy calorie laden drink for that glass of wine etc... that you've given up!

Post here throughout the week on how you are doing!

I don't drink either. I am going to modify this weekly challenge to "empty calories" of a different sort. The ever tempting sugary treat that seems to always make its way into my daily food intake. So no candy, cookie bite, etc. for me this week. That's my challenge.

I've tried to cut back on alcohol in general this past month, but I'm a big beer fan so this has been one of the hardest parts for me!

I will say, i can't promise I'll make it totally alcohol free all week...Thursday is my Birthday and I'm planning on indulging in a cheat day including a big frozen strawberry margarita!

I'll do my best to keep it to one and not drink any of the other days though! Great weekly challenge!

I did this last week and will continue to abstain until Saturday - we are getting together with some friends we haven't seen in a while and are staying over at a hotel so we will be imbibing. I can (and will) limit it to Saturday though.

I was looking forward to watching Scandal tonight but decided to DVR and watch it next week. With as much wine as Olivia Pope drinks in each episode, thought I should not risk being tempted :)

I failed. MIL came to town and poured me a glass of wine with dinner last night and made me a low cal margarita that she gave me as soon as I walked in the door. It is well within my calorie goals for today so I'm not fussed (plus it was really sweet if her)

I don't drink because I'm breastfeeding my 7 month old but I love sweets! I will abstain from my sweet treat after dinner through Monday instead.

You didn't fail. The challenge was to abstain OR limit alcohol for the week. If it fit in your calories, that works!

@Trinity well of course I cheated last week. Maybe I should dump the divine white chocolate bar I have in my purse and my brookside chocolate gojis on the counter and start fresh today :/

@SmithsonianEmpress you make me laugh. Thanks for the early morning chuckle. I too have cheated this week. Darn spring break with the grandkids. As you said, fresh start today. @Trinity we are the Three Amigos!!!

@SmithsonianEmpress @dbackgrammy confession: just before I read this weekly challenge I ate a tofuti cutie (dairy free ice cream sandwich) AND a chocolate glazed donut. So it's ok :)
Today I am craving sweets!!!! this is hard y'all.

Well @dbackgrammy and @SmithsonianEmpress I was stressed to the max today Violet was just crying a lot, threw up on me and there was a mountain of chores I needed to do so I ate sweets today and tomorrow I live to fight another day.

I eat sweet treats to de-stress but then I feel like crap after. Anyone else feel this way?

6 days strong here, without alcohol, really would've loved a glass of wine tonight but didn't give in. As a side result my inclination to late night has completely disappeared this week :)

@trinitymwilson , I am right there with you this week. I'm assuming Violet is your child and it's hard when they are unhappy and as parents we can't relieve what is bothering them. So we eat our stress. I have been dealing with extreme stress from my child too, but mine is 37 years old so it's stress of a totally different kind, but the results are the same. You have a great attitude to live to fight another day. But if you figure out how to not feel so crappy and guilty after de-stressing with food, please share your wisdom. Hang in there and hopefully Violet will be much happier tomorrow. It's weigh in day and time to start a new week with brand new expectations and goals for the week. We got this, young lady!!!

Trinity, I passed up the Oreo cupcake at Whole Foods and I'm mad at myself. Anyway, I'm the opposite when I stress. I don't eat so today I really didn't eat much which lead to the headache I have now. Lots of crying here today. Some of it I ignored and let daddy take over. :|
Tomorrow IS a new day, new week really so it will be better

@SmithsonianEmpress @dbackgrammy thank you thank you for your encouragement and support ❤❤

@SmithsonianEmpress it's a good thing you passed on the Oreo cupcake! It's empty calories! sounds like you had a stressful day too. it's ok to step away and let papa bear take care of baby bear. You did a good thing taking care of yourself.

@dbackgrammy I just read an article on emotional eating which is how I've been coping with stress. Not good. the article says to stop, take 3 slow deep breaths, decide how to deal with it. I'm going to do the chicken dance to make myself laugh first then do 3 burpees. I'll keep you posted on how this works out :)
I can relate to chronic relationship stress with a family member, it's tough to say the least. massage and meditation and wine has worked some of the times for me
