Phantom Smells while on Keto?

Now, I have no idea if this has anything to do with keto or not, but I have no other answers.

Last Friday morning I started smelling cigarette smoke, by the afternoon I realized I was still smelling it and no one else could smell it. Now, today (Tuesday) I am still smelling it, has not gone away at all, I am losing my mind. It is so frustrating smelling nothing but smoke for days on end. I smell it at work, in my car, in my house, everywhere. I tried using vicks under my nose but that only lasted so long.

Any ideas? The only thing that has changed in my life is this WOE.

Thanks!

The only even slightly related experience for me is both smell and taste sensitivity increased after cutting out all sweeteners both real and fake.

I have never experienced this in regards to keto but I once had a lingering burning smell that no one else could smell and it turned out I had a sinus infection. Just throwing that out there. lol

I have experienced phantom smells but I haven't correlated it to keto / lowcarb. I've had them long before I went low-carb. The smoke one is really annoying, and the most common one I've experienced, but I haven't had it last as long as you. Usually it fades in an hour or so for me.

I used to get phantom smells just before I'd get a really bad head cold.. but since going keto, I haven't been sick! However, it happened to me again fairly recently, and I thought I was loosing my mind. I was eating a certain brand of protein bars, and I noticed that I would smell it stronger afterwards. I cut out that brand of bars (and I also snorted some food grade ionic iodine, once a day for three days) and it went away..

Phantom smells are maddening.. hope you find some relief!!

Please mention this to your doctor. This can sometimes be caused by an underlying medical condition.

Wow. I don't have phantom smells but with your mention of underlying medical conditions I went to google just to see what I'd find. Thumbs up to you for sharing.

Yuck, of all the scents in the world, you had to have cigarette smoke inflicted upon you. I've become so sensitive to smokers that I can sniff them from a distance of ten feet but at least I can usually move away and escape the stench. Hope you find out the cause of this; it sounds dreadful.

I know, right! I'd take any other smell.... except sick baby diarrhea diaper.... never that one!

Saw my doctor and he has no answers. Mentioned seizure or brain issue. Since I have no other symptoms he isn't getting to excited. Said if I start experiencing headaches or another symptom to come right in, otherwise I need to wait it out a couple weeks :( if it's still there I go for a CT scan.

No sign of sinus infection or the like.

So pretty much, suck it up and hope it goes away lol

Its so frustrating, I'm so irritable, 24/7 smelling nothing but stale, dusty, 3rd hand smoke :(

I have not experienced phantom smells related to Keto. I've noticed other real smells are more pronounced (urine, bo are much stronger) I did want to say (brag) that since I quit smoking 3 mos now! I smell how bad that was. The other day I got in my car after not driving it for a month. OMG! It was so gross, and I never noticed it before. I brought it down to have it cleaned and detailed. I can still pick up the odor of chaulky ashtray smell and I don't think it will ever completely go away. I'm sure it will get worse in the summer with the humidity. Probably will get rid of the car this summer.
