I have been doing low carb for some time. Often hitting 5% targets for carb intake on a low cal diet. I never get into ketosis. I am also doing strength training twice a week now and walk an hour and a half a day. I'm losing weight slowly. Has anyone got any constructive suggestions or feedback about what might help?

How much protein are you eating? too much protein releases glucose which will keep you from going into ketosis as well. Are you getting enough fat in your diet? Post a sample of a daily diary and let's see if we can help you.

Hi thanks!!! I'll copy a week here tomorrow when I have reception and a charger! I think maybe : alcohol end of day and little too much protein also. Often all is well ... but I drink too much and eat meat or fish before fat. Looking at pictures of keto diets I think I eat a bit to much meat. Appreciate your support. Simon

There are zero and low carb wines you can buy online. If that helps. ;-)

Aha. I have restricted myself to spirits but I understand that this just needs to be burned off before ketosis can begin anyway. I typically have an egg and half an avocado in the morning. For lunch I have been eating mostly protein - sometimes a salad with crayfish and more avocado. There is often protein in the evening with dark greens. I have found that occiaionally things I did not know had carbs in have sneaken in and blown my totals - also I have been guilty of adding together several relatively low carb things like miso soup which I am addicted too! I have a couple or three large glasses of spirits most evenings - which I know I need to stop doing...

protein can also increase your glucose which will keep you from getting into ketosis. You may try Intermitten Fasting (IF). Trying to only eat between 6-8 hours a day. Maybe noon to 6pm. You can get all your same meals in that time frame but only between those hours, watch your protein and limit the spirits and see what happens. :-)

Thanks. I'll try and cut the drink - probably am a bit high on protein.

Does no carb liquor actually stop you going into ketosis?

    That I don't know. But here's what I found when I searched. http://nobunplease.com/alcohol-on-a-low-carb-keto-diet/
