I just researched this pancreas divism. Are you having episodes of pancreatitis and that's why they're checking? If you do have this, what is the treatment? Will they operate to correct it?
I'm curious because after three years of pancreatic fistulas and pancreatitis, they finally found where the fistula was and operated to sew the fistula to my duedeum so now it will drain from the head of my pancreas and the fistula right into my small bowel. Before it would build up and erupt on the outside of my waist, where I would then end up with a drainage tube for a few months.
Since my surgery in November, I have been symptom free as long as I eat properly, but I am diabetic since 2015 because of the damage to my pancreas. After my surgery, the doctor told me that only 20% of my pancreas is still functioning, the other 80% has atrophied and is useless. I have to take digestive enzymes forever, and of course, now I'm on insulin.
But, no more pain, vomiting, or fistulas.

I've had pancreatitis 5 times since 10/2013, that one was due to impacted gallbladder. I was thinking of weight loss surgery but was having other stomach issues and was referred to GI Dr. He did an ERCP and found my bile duct is malformed and my pancreas was too. He said he felt that pancreas divism was the cause but wanted to do an EUS (electroscopic ultrasound) to be sure. Had that done on Friday and was told by that Dr that have a lot of scarring and stones in my pancreas and he couldn't see if I had divism or not. I'm waiting for my GI to schedule follow up to see what to do now. I don't have high hopes of being able to fix it. I will probably have to start taking injections. Going to look into changing meds too. Diet is a work in progress but I stay pretty low carb, sugar and med fat and protein. I'm currently taking creon (probably for life) as we know my pancreas isn't processing correctly or producing the enzymes.
I'm glad you got your problem solved and are no longer in pain.

I take Creon as well, and the Dr. Said that's for life. I'm also on Metformin and a long acting insulin once a day. I was told that is also for life, because of the damage to my pancreas. They removed my gallbladder after the first round of pancreatitis in 2013. It started as a simple gallstone removal. They nicked my pancreas, which then contracted c-difficult. I went back to the hospital the same night, and woke up two weeks later in intensive care. I had necrotizing pancreatitis and spent 4 1/2 months in hospital. It was a long hall, with more CTscan, ERCP's and MRI's than I can count.
I'm hoping you get this sorted out, I know how hard it can be. Keep me posted would you?0 -
OMG... I hope you got a lawyer after all that. My first round was when in October 2014 when they removed my impacted gallbladder, which gave me pancreatitis. Second round was 3 months later with Lipase level of 11,802. During this visit they tried to do an ERCP and couldn't get the scope down so they ran a wire through my side for the scope to follow; in doing so the nicked some blood vessels around my liver and gave me internal bleeding, which took over a year to heal completely. Ive been in 3 more times since. I am trying to get my GP to refer me to an endocrinologist for better diabetes control. My GP is talking about holding off on the insulin pen (which he gave me one to try and it did help) - Ugh, doctors... I sent you a friend request.0

With the metformin and long acting insulin, how are your BG numbers?0

When I behave, my numbers are pretty good. I never bother to sue, because, here in Canada, it's not worth it. And people make mistakes. I'm all better now. I'll check out the friends request.1

Sorry it took so long to answer. I've had a bad cold, and honestly, I've been in the dumps lately. I'm glad you've positive results.
The endocrinologist may help control, the pancreatitis flares a well. I know I was told that too much fat in my diet will cause flares.
Good luck.0 -
