Scared to add carbs

Hey all! I'm going to start adding a few carbs extra tomorrow. Nothing crazy, just extra veggies and some nuts/seeds. For some reason I'm worried this is going to derail me and I'll stop seeing progress. I have the Atkins book and I am following it but I just need a little reassurance that this will be ok!

I just completed two weeks of a very clean induction (no processed anything) w/ under 20 grams net carbs per day. I feel good but I'm ready to expand my nutrition profile a little bit and get some more summer produce into my diet. I only have about 20 more pounds to go so I want to start learning the maintenance phases sooner.

You will be absolutely fine, and have nothing to worry about. To "derail" in all honesty, you'd have to immediately jump to over 50 in a day, and probably even a lot more than that! A little fruits and veggies? Zero worries!

I still go by the book, but I have noticed that the book can be a little bit alarmist and stingy. Worst case scenario, you'll see the weight loss slow down. If you were to actually stall, then cut back a little bit with the extra carbs.

You seriously have nothing to worry about. I just ate a Fiber-One Wrap ten minute ago with eight net carbs, just like I did two days ago. And I'm happy to report that I'm still losing weight just fine at 27 net carbs per day. If you want a "watch out" statement, then all I'd say is to keep a close eye on how many nuts and seeds you eat, and still, be careful with the "starchy" veggies like corn, green peas, etc... Still, no REAL worries...

Go, eat your extra veggies, and enjoy!

Thanks Eddie! Today I felt like I went crazy and chugged vegetables. I didn't have any fruit or nut but guess what? My net carb was 26 and I had 8 servings of vegetables including beets which are pretty low fiber. So, I think I couldn't possibly eat enough vegetables to put me over 50.

I need to re-read the other phases in the book. I just skimmed those sections before when I was focusing on getting started with induction. But, since I'm gluten intolerant I will never be adding back breads or starchy snacks so it's really just whole food (fruit, nut, veggies, seeds) that will be the "carbs" in my diet. I agree though, nuts and seeds are kind of addictive for me and difficult to portion control so I need to be careful with those. Also, I'm a sucker for a good red wine and dark chocolate :)

Anyway, thanks for the pep talk!
